Hi Everyone. My feelings towards showing in HOT weather is that I will not show my dogs when it gets above 35 degrees, for the safety of my dogs health. What are your opinions towards showing dogs when the temperature becomes extreme.

Well, here in the USA, we generally prefer to show our dogs at temps in excess of 60 degrees, but under 90 degrees, if at all possible. We don't always have that choice, though, at an outdoor show.

I have never made a habit of showing in very hot weather only because I HATE it myself. Can't stand the heat. I usually start showing from March onwards to early December. Most people do look after the dogs with cool coats, shade, fresh cool water and keep out of the heat.

It's just when read about some twit who left their dog in the trailer all day and nearly dies (happened last year in S.A. and not whippets) it tends to ruin it for people who do take care of their dogs.

I do not like to show my dogs in over 30 degrees, but it depends on the individual dogs. Small pups I would not like to take if the forecast is for more than about 27, and I have to be doubly careful as the blacks (or any dark colour) will feel the heat lot more than light coloured dogs.

I have entered my black baby in 4 shows and so far only showed her once :b , cannot wait for March :)

Here in Scotland we are lucky to reach 25oC!!!!

Seriously though, i think there has been 1 or 2 shows that i remember being uncomfortable hot but managed to find shade under a tree! I dont think we have been above the 30's though! Wouldnt show in those conditions, its not fair on the dogs!

Marie.

I can only remember one show where both me and the dogs were uncomforable - Southern Counties 2007!

That was way too hot, fortunately Frankie had his sun coat to keep him cool and sun cream on his nose. :D

Shows this weekend in Victoria at KCC park are cancelled to extreme heat forecast of 44 deg C.
