First thing is does she have his registration papers from his racing days? If not she needs to contact the greyhound stud book. She needs a copy of his pedigree from them. It has to be from them as it has to have an official stamp. It cost about £5 when I got Button's but that was 2 years ago. She needs his official identy card to be in her name as his owner

Then she needs to download this form from the keenl club.It says registration for a working sheepdog but its the same for a greyhound

http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/download/381/form9.pdf

Fill it in with his details and send it of. She can either use his racing name or make up another. Most use their racing name Button has her racing name as her kc name. Then send that form, his pedigree and his official identity card to the kennel club. That costs £12. It took about a month to 6 weeks to sort Button's papers out.

Once she has his papers sorted with the KC she can then show him. At open shows they tend not to have greyhound classes in some areas we don't get them here but in the south they do have them. They have to go in the Not Seperately Classified classes if they don't have breed classes. At champ shows she can enter him in the greyhound classes then at the greyhound club shows crufts and the hound shows he can go in the racing and coursing classes.

thanks very much going to speak to the trainer tomorrow to see if they still got his card

the trainer has his identy card. will pick it up tomorrow

will the ngrc change him into her name although he is retired?

Yes they will. The trainer should know what to do about changing the owner. We had to fill in a form to decare Button retired and to change her ownership but if he is already declared retired then it is most likely a change of ownership form. Ask the trainer he should know if not get in touch with the greyhound stud book they'll tell you what to do.The phone number is 01638 667381 I think

sent of my cheque today to the irish courisng club for his pedigree as joe was born in Ireland, picking up id card on sunday. filled in transfer of owner form. we getting bit excited.

YAAAYYYYYYYY Maybe we'll meet up at crufts next year.

That is unless Button decides she doesn't want to go and comes in season again

yes we will have u entered button into the breeders festival at Henlow there is a class for under 8 year olds.

No I haven't entered her for anywere now as she has decided that she doesn't like the hot wether we had earlier this year and has thrown her coat. Its just coming back through but she looks very patchy at the moment. She'll most likely not do anything untill crufts next year

all the paper work has been sent off just have to wait for it all to come back then can send it all off to the KC exciting

Joes Pedigree has just come back from Ireland just waiting for the english stud book to send bits back

still waiting to hear back from kc now hopefully wont be to much longer now

Phone them up and ask how its going with them. I did with Button's and they had already been done they gave me her registration number as crufts entries were closing and I needed it to enter online. Her papers arrived a couple of days later.

YIPPY just spoke to the kc and they are doing his paper work today should be in my hands by tomorrow!!!!!!

Show bred and racing-bred greyhounds have diverged considerably in type.Greyhounds don't draw large entries at most shows (not are many litters registered with the kennel

club), but at some shows where they are expected to turn out in larger numbers a "racing class" is

offered. I have never seen these classes and I have a few questions.

A)

1) What entitles a dog to be in the racing class? Is registration with a racing/coursing association

sufficient or does the dog need to have actually raced? If it needs to have competed does it need to

have had any specified degree of success?

2) Does the judge look for anything different in a racing greyhound or are the dogs judged against the

show standard but in a class where they are compared with others of the same type?

B)

And some related questions, irrespective of whether special classes are offered for (ex)racers, does a

racing-bred greyhound ever stand a chance of beating show greyhounds in competition? If you had a

racing bred dog with good movement, head, ears, tail (the last three make no difference in a race) but

still looking different from a show bred dog would it stand a chance?

Do breeders occasionally deliberately outcross a show greyhound to a race greyhound -- if so, why?

!. An ex-racer can be registered at the Kennel Club if it registered with with the Greyhound Trust, I think. I know it has to have some documentation with reference to it's racing career.

2 and 3. Sadly most judges will judge greyhounds in line with the Kennel Club breed standard, therefore as racing dogs differ from show stock there is a preference for show dogs to get placed over ex racers. But if they are in their own class they will be judged as ex racers, or should be IMO.

The show dog is bigger and heavier for a start and will not have the same muscular development as the racer. Also show dogs are longer cast.

To my knowledge not racing bred dog has been mated to a show bitch or the other way round!! I think in some ways it might be a good thing, there were some really good looking coursing greyhounds around before the hunting ban.

I have a show bred greyhound, she is big and black. I think my next one will be a rescue, much calmer!!!!!!!!

A friend of mine who had both Show and racing Greyhounds . Gordon Dowthweight DID cross the two and as far as I know he is the only person to have done so and actually won at a champ show with the offspring .

Gordon is no longer with us im afraid , a very knowledgable man , he took me coursing one day with a racer and a show greyhound . We put up a hare and Gordon loosed the dogs . both kept fairly level until the hare turned , . The racer kept behind but the Showy took such a wide berth to follow , by the time it was round the hare and racing GH were long gone .

the 2 types are so very diverse , this is why after having racing greyhounds since I was 15years old , dont ask how long ago that was ,when I decided to show, a whippet was my choice of dog .

Wrong topic sorry
