Similarity Between Magpies And Pipes??

Took Mac for a run around the grass on the racetrack today. We don't have wild rabbits in Norway so he usually chases birds. Today he set off in the direction of some iron pipes from the watering system on the track. I was thinking that he can't surely mistake them for magpies or crows? But he did. Boooiiing! Then scream and limp back to mommy... Result: tiny nick on one toe and a little cut on his nose... And a huge sulk.... Lucky he didn't hurt himself bad, though.
