We measured Bluebell today - She is 6 months + 1 Week - and measures 18 inches - does this sound ok?

Bit of an Ear thing going on at the moment - she's been eating too much friut and is developing into a fruitbat I think

Ruby is about a month younger than Bluebell and measures 17 1/2 " so about on a par I should think. She weighs 20lb now.

Pauline & Ruby

I just measured Ella - I think she's exactly the same age as Bluebell, born 28.6.07.

She's 18" to the shoulder, 19" from base of neck to root of tail and 16" round the waist.

Her legs are a little on the short side, as is her tail, but I'm hoping the legs will grow a bit longer

I also just measured Molly, born on 26/6/07, she is 17", she is also a little short on leg at the present time but has a nice long tail. Am also hoping her legs will grow a little longer as they have been. At 4mths she was short and stocky but has refined down as she grows taller.

They all seem to grow differently some fast then suddenly stop, some slow and steady, if you know the lines behind your dogs it "sometimes" helps predict the height they will reach on maturity, I'm guessing Molly will reach 18 - 18 1/2".

Anne.

At 5 months my Claudia was 16.5". in the past week she grew to 16.75". :)

I would expect her to reach about 18" - 19" in the next 6 weeks or so, and that is what she will be.

Thank you all for replies, it is very interesting to hear all the sizes - Blue was born on the 20-06-07 - and unlike Ella and Molly she is ALL leg  She's very gawky at the moment :- "

Bluebell sounds like she will be ok on size.

Size is a funny one Dove at 18 weeks was 17.5, which was ok. By 6 months she was 19.5 :sweating: (Will you stop growing) she is just off 21 inches at 20 months.

Hello,

As everyone was talking size I thought I would measure Indi and at present is 20weeks and 6days and he to the shoulder is just a mark or to shy of 19" ( :teehee: He wouldn't stand still, he loves to play with the tape measure  ) Do you think that is OK? I'm quite new at this so not to sure?

Am a bit funny when it comes to whippet and sizes, and prefer my whippets to be either bang on the bred standard or just under it. I know some judges wont fault your whippet if it is over sized but others will and at the end of the day the bred standard is there for a reason. But thats just my own thoughts! Whippets come at all sizes and shapes these days but at the end of the day showing should be fun and at the end of the you always take the best dog home

Marie.

Different lines grow at different rates. Some are as tall as they will get at 7 months, others will continue to get taller for a few months. She certainly sounds like a nice size for her age.

Does it look like there is much knuckle left?

Rachel, just my curiosity-but does this mean that the knuckles [above the pastern?] smooth out, when they have finished growing? I have noticed adult whippets in general have a very smooth line down the front of the leg. Is this what you mean?

I am on a steep learning curve as whippets are very new to me.
