How long can puppies last a night without being taken out?

With Tess I left paper down at night, but it took AGES (6months) to house train her.

So with Esme I am sleeping downstairs on the sofa with her crate across the room from me so that I can hear if she wakes up and take her out, the first few nights we went out every 2 hours or so, but last night I was so tired that I slept through till four thirty (from 11.30) and she seemed fine.

So the question is: do you think I can go back to bed tonight, or do you think I should stay down and take her out during the night?

Thank you

I think I'd start trying to encourage her get her through the night, you are up very early anyway so it's not much longer to wait. It's a delicate balance between getting them in the routine of going outside and responding to them when they ask, and them training you to jump to their every whim. You need your sleep to keep up to speed with her during the day. She'll be fine, I'm sure.

i got gypsy at 8 weeks....and NEVER got up with her.....i dont go to bed till after 12 am and am usually up before 6am but she never went out in between and never had an accident :b

i have to admit though she hardly ever drinks? maybe this is why?

best of luck :luck:

Spry used to wake me up at 2 every morning but after a few I thought I'll wait a few minutes and see if she stops.she did. but I think by me getting up to let her out I was getting her into that routine,so making a rod for my own back

At the end of the day if you leave paper for her to go on the worst that can happen is that she will have an accident, but you will be shattered if you sleep on the sofa

I never got up either through the night - Kobi used to wake around 4.30 am to start with and it gradually got longer and longer. Oscar was a tad older when I got him and he went right through apart from the odd whine .

I wouldnt encourage them to go out in the middle of the night, but thats just me.

Good luck Olivia :luck:
