I report with the utmost sadness that Dottie was put to sleep this morning
At fifteen and a half years of age she has certainly had a good innings and her end was a gradual demise due to a progressive heart condition rather than something nasty.
I'd like to think she enjoyed her last day yesterday at Harvel, but in truth all she wanted to do was lie-down. In fact it seemed that she was telling me that her time was up, she'd stopped eating on Friday and by yesterday stopped drinking too. I'd more or less made up my mind by last night, and the vet confirmed my fears when I took her this morning.
I seem to be very upset by her passing, despite having had to cope with the loss in previous years of her mother, aunt and older step-sister and can barely see the keyboard through my tears.
She was, of course litter sister to the more famous Hattie (Hatt Outta Belle) who, thankfully is problem free at the moment - although her time can't be far away of course. On the track Dottie was good, but not quite brilliant. Although she had won at opens, the one I remember best was her semi-final win over Kizzy Nite in the John Porter Bend at Newmarket. Kizzy reversed it in the final but I was delighted with her running and remember this race over all the others.
I know Chris took some pictures of Dottie - no need to ask first Chris, go ahead and post them if they are ok - and thanks.
Go with love Dottie, we miss you already.
