Went for a walk this afternoon to try and get some autumn colour photos. Managed to get these two (not brilliant but I'll post them anyway), but then noticed Joe was limping and holding up his back foot. :(

Had to carry him back to the car, and have now made an appointment at the vets tomorrow morning. It looks a bit swollen and he's still not putting his full weight on it.

I've been really careful upto now. This is the first time I've ventured out in the car with Joe, taking all three dogs, and letting him off the lead for the first time. He was only off the lead for a minute or so, had a short run with Fred, I put him back on and then noticed his limp. :(

Awww poor Joe, :huggles: good luck at the vets :luck: I had a similar thing will Spry a few weeks ago and made an appointment and everything anyway in about half an hour she was right as a bobbin I think it was a sting or something like that, because there was a bit of swelling but no obvious cause and it went as quickly as it came

Try not to worry too much. Hope Joe feels much better soon.

It must be a whippet thing, think they are prone to lameness due to their shape. Their bony stick like legs take a lot of punishment. Annie would go lame frequently when she was younger, not a reccurent lameness to one particular leg but often when she excerised I'd notice she would probably have a problem in one of her legs. I always let her walk and trot for about 20 mins to warm up before letting her run fast off the lead. Thankfully she has never been lame for very long and I have never had to seek veterinary advice. She does still sometimes go lame but usually she is ok 5 mins later.

One reason why I think it's so important to have pet insurance with Whippets.

Alf, JRT on the other hand just seems so sturdy, Alf's almost 3 and he has never ever gone lame, he's a toughy, typical terrier, bombs around at 100 mile an hour without doing himself any harm.

:luck: at vets tommorrow

Thanks everyone. I think I may have been a bit premature with my panicking, as he seems ok again now.

Can't believe I'm such a worrier :b ....will keep an eye on him though. They don't half give you a fright at times though

When I had my last two whippet pups, they quite often yelped and whimpered over a minor leg injury. Joe didn't yelp or anything...but was definitely in pain. He's soo different to Fred ;)

Thanks for the reassurring words Mazza. Yes it could have even been a sting Lesley! Sorry to make a fuss.

glad Joe ok  :huggles: :huggles:

lovely photos  :D :D

Try some Arnica tablets , they work really well, or arnica cream rubbed into the affected

limb, it usually sorts out minor strains and spprains really quickly

Lovely pics :)) loely time of the year for colours on the land.

so pleased joe is ok :huggles:

Beware winter nettles. They are very nasty and can cause horrible looking skin problems and swelling.

Woody put his nose in some and his muzzle swelled up for several days. My dogs are having problems because they are chasing bunnies through mown thistles and nettles. They come back lame. That last's for a few hours.

Glad Joe is ok Nicola, glad you are getting out with him now  it makes a big difference to them.

Great pics
