Okay seeing as Evie seems to be a bit of a speed monster - are there any FAQ's for complete beginners to racing (and I mean completely basic things) just in case :- " :- " I am intending to go to the next Northern meet (how do I find out when the next one is?)

How old do they have to be?

Training?

Rules?

Do they have to register? or pass a certain test to race?

Thankyou

Need to join a club first and train on the straights and the bends , then race within the club for some experience.

As for training road walking is the best idea as it builds up muscles and stamina. We try to do 4 miles on tarmac 4xs a week, only just started ourselves but it seems to be working so far (should be good for the waistline too!!)

Jinx gets normal runs as well in the fields behind our house but hard surface is best for the muscle development.

Also they need to be 1 year to race.

Hope that helps a bit

Anyone any ideas on diet plz?

1 year old is normally the min age to race but you can trial from 6 months at most clubs. Go along to the Northern and speak with members there, they will be happy to advise you :) Click on their link in Clubs and Societies for details of where they are etc.

Hiya,

We're meeting this Sunday if you want to come along and watch some racing  We'll be happy to go through everything with you :D Sue is coming also on Sunday, you could give her a ring and possibly follow her down if you are not sure where we are. Look forward to seeing you and Evie. Oh, there should be Sue's two and Oliver and Roger there aswell

Hi all

There was a booklet called something like 'getting started racing'. It was free and printed by the WCRA. If you contact them direct or via one of the affiliated clubs I'm sure you will get a copy.

The good thing about Whippets (as compaired to other sight hounds) is chasing after a lure (something that moves) is a natural part of their make-up. It is rare for a whippet not to chase.

Important thing is to make contact with your local club, visit them on race day and watch what they do. This hopefully will stop you from making too many mestakes.

Good Luck

Okay Sunday sounds like a good one then - can someone give me the exact address and postcode (for Sally Satnav) Boyfriend had PROMISED to take me to the next one as we were at his Dads 70th Birthday party for the last one. What time?

Do you take a picnic or is there a pub (suitable for children?) for lunch - actually will it be ok for a 13yr old (he would be a willing helper too) 7yr old and 5yr old boys to go too?
