My neighbour has a poorly dog, it has diarrhea and it's tummy is very extended and painful, it is also very lethargic this has been going on for some three weeks. The vet has scanned the dog's tummy, taken blood samples and advised a chicken and rice diet. So far all tests have been negative. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds ominous. Change vet. You could try Logic diarstop paste but really under advice from a vet. As to diet I had a lot of good advice from St. Elmos kitchen , they have a website. She is costly but her suggestions made all the difference to my dog. Vets aren't nutrtiinists.

All the best

Yes, second opinion required unless the original vet is doing more tests. Is your neighbour following the vet's full advice. Sometimes vets want to investigate further but have to go with the owner's wishes (and, of course, financial constraints).

Just learnt that a few of weeks prior the dog ate some chocolates out of a box wrappers as well would this have caused it?

Chocolate is very toxic to dogs but wOld have thought if it was three weeks prior it would have showed before now, and the paper would have passed through. Thinks it's Elmos kitchen!

Cheers
