My 11 year old whippet has been diagnosed by our vet with this today.

He has been limping for a few days and hanging his head and not enjoying his walks.he is still eating.

He has been put on painkillers for a week.

Does anyone else's whippet have this condition?

hi there, my whippet who's ten in a month, gets a bad back occassionally, started about 6 months ago. I have not had xrays done yet, but we discussed the different things that could be causing it, and i remember looking up spondylosis and finding a very good blog by a lady with a few mallinois, she had some good links and photo's of xrays, i'll see if i can find the link and post it on here.

Mine suffered acute pain, with no apparent injury, so we kind of ruled spondylosis out as he is still very flexible and active, after a painkiller day and rest, and his symptoms only last a day or two. Oddly enough he is feeling a bit off today, and isn't doing the full whippety shakedown thing. I undertand that spondylosis is where bone grows in little spurs on the spine, and makes the dog very stiff, but its not so painful, unless the little spurs are damaged. Did you get xrays done?

Hope the painkillers give him a bit of relief, its horrible when they aren't acting themselves, :(

i'll see if i can find that thing for you,
