no one got any advise for me then?  :(
Why don't you have a go, take a photo and get people to comment!! ;) (That's what I did with Fergal!! :b )

I can't help myself, being a complete novice at the moment too!! :D

Here is a picture of Savannah stacked taken just over a year ago.

sorry...no advice on stacking whippets.

It's just that whenever I see a photo of Wendy's dog I go weak at the knees...it's a good job I'm sitting down. I think she's stunning, lovely shape and I LOVE her markings.

Sorry to butt in....no help at all I'm afraid.

:D Tina the best way to start is to attend a ringcraft class, these can be great fun and they should be able to show you how to go about training Chance to stand :D

Aww thanks Nicola. We're very partial to her ourselves!

Tina - people aren't purposely being vague it's just that to describe what to do in writing isn't as clear as getting help from someone in person where you can be shown what to do.

There's no one way to get them standing like that - everyone has a different way of doing it. Most will set up the front legs first and then the back. Some do each leg at a time, some lift the front of the dog to get the front right and then lift the back end. Some do a bit of each. It's really whatever works for you and your dog.

I was taught how to stack, but what I'm doing now is probably a combination of what I was taught mixed with what I saw others doing that works for me. I may do exactly the same with the new pup - or things might change if she doesn't respond the same way as Savvy does to the way I move her.

This is why you're getting vague answers.

I think thats good advise to go to a ringcraft class, because you are going to have to learn how to stack your dog on a table too. Personally I start my puppies on a table at a few weeks old.(Saves on the old back too!) Then it is easy to "lift" the front and rear into position, with a command of "stand" or "show" always rewarding with a treat .Remember to keep the sessions short and finish on a good note, when your pup has held a poise for even a few seconds. When your pup is "gettingIt" transfer to the floor,More distractions there. It helps enormously to have a mirror,so you can see how the legs are positioned etc: Keep a stacked photo of a friends dog taped to the mirror for reference. Hope this helps a bit. But do try and find classes, you and your pup need to know "ring-patterns too" Ettiqette etc: Good Luck :)

here is peter not 100% perfect but near enough

Just try to stand her 4 square , eg all legs level as in a table .

Only give praise and talk to them all the time , I say `stand` in a nice friendly voice ,lots of praise works wonders .

Hhave a look on the threads were the dogs are stacked . , try to do it in front of a mirror so you can see what it looks like from afar .

2nd lesson 2 morrow :- "

Cheers for that! :D

I have been trying, but with no luck yet, when ever I go to put her legs right she thinks I'm playing and jumps on my head as I'm bending down lmao!

practice makes perfect though,

Try doing it with her on the table, or you sitting on the floor. I used to sit while watching TV and just place Savannah's feet when she was younger. That way they get used to you playing with their feet, and the feeling of standing in the right position.

And don't stress over it :D

When I try to stack my pups they stand for about 1/2 a second then want to explore the table

Tina there are so many little nuances in the ways to stack a dog - it is much better to have someone with you to demonstrate. Pop off to your nearest show (perhaps a companion show where people are friendlier and not so competitive) and ask different people to show you (and explain) how they stack their whippets. Everyone will do it differently.
