STEVEN

Meet Steven. He is a male greyhound who, at just over a year old, has already finished with the racing world. Steven is a big, striking boy. He has an unusual white coat splattered with fawn patches and dots, and is sure to be just gorgeous once he loses the thick kennel coat and puts on some good condition.

~ Personality ~

Steven is one special dog. He has just come to us, and right now he is absolutely petrified of everything and everyone apart from other dogs. When his previous owner brought him to us, it took an hour just to get him out of the car. Steven came from a litter of 4, the rest of whom were sadly euthanized before we could get to them due to being too nervous to race – Steven is now the sole survivor. The dear boy is literally scared of his own shadow, and is going to need a very patient owner to help him gain in confidence and start to enjoy life.

~ Other Animals ~

Steven is good with other dogs of all sizes and absolutely must go to a home with other self-assured, confident dog(s) already present to help him come out of his shell. The more dogs around him, the more comfortable he feels. We are hoping to move him into foster care with other dogs in the near future.

~ Out and About ~

Right now Steven is very scared of the great outdoors and finds walking along a road very stressful. He must be walked in a double lead of harness and collar to prevent him escaping, as if something spooks him suddenly he will try to run away. His walks can take from 15mins to 2hrs depending on what he meets when out, as when he feels threatened he freezes and lays down on the road, wishing to disappear. Its so terribly sad that such a beautiful big dog is as traumatised and terrified as Steven, but we hope to see improvement soon. With lots of kind words and repetition, he should start to come out of his shell.

~ In the Home ~

Steven has never been in a home, but we hope to move him into foster care very soon. This boy’s progress should speed up significantly once he is in a loving home environment with constant contact with people. It will surely take him a while to readjust to all the strange sights and sounds of a home, but once he does we are certain he will never look back on his kennel days. This boy truly just wants to be loved, but is far, far too scared to make the initiative right now. He will need to be shown that people can be kind and gentle. Steven will need a calm, peaceful home, preferably in the country with no young children present so that he can truly relax in his own bed. We will update with this boy’s progress in the near future.

~ Where Am I? ~

Steven is currently being kennelled in Ireland and will be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe when a suitable permanent or foster home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up, and if you are in the UK and wish to meet before adopting him, he will be fostered in the Norfolk area.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Steven is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Steven, please email me (Tam) on tamakin_84@yahoo.co.uk for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks!

~~ KERRY GREYHOUND CONNECTION ~~

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and given a full veterinary check before being adopted.

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in Ireland, the UK, Central Europe and the USA.
