Driving back from the hydrotherapy pool this afternoon, through the local lanes, some miles from anywhere, I met a terrier x (looked like a JRT x Beagle to me) walking down the middle of the road. Stopped the car, said hello to the little chap (he was very friendly), rang the number on his collar and luckily his owner was in. Secured him in the footwell of the car (whips were in the back) and drove him home. So far so good ...
... but her only 'concern' when I dropped him off was just how far from home he was. Apparently he is in the habit of taking himself out and about along the lanes, pays daily visits to the local farm, etc. etc., but doesn't usually go quite as far as he had today. She really wasn't remotely bothered that he was straying just surprised that he'd walked so far this time.
Now is it just me or is it downright irresponsible to knowingly allow your dog to take himself walkies, however quiet the roads he's on ... if I'd met him on a bend I might have swerved to avoid him and hit something, or hit him. I just don't get why some people have dogs
