Ians Mum . Paula has PM`d me and says she accepts my apoligies , but that `I still need to qualify `myself .

What do i need to do or say . :( I was concernd about my breed and dont feel that I need to qualify myself for anything. Im not the only K9er who was concernd about the post ,

I have a stud dog and live not TOO far from Wolverhampton , perhaps if Id just rang with Montees details all would have been ok :- "

Did you get a stud for your bitch , was it one from K9 ?

Just thought i'd throw my hat in the ring.
I know John & Paula very well, i've met them on several occassions and they are both very nice polite people to be around, their dogs are in A1 condition and very well looked after.

I hope that addresses some of the questions on here.

They could use one of your dogs then Mark ,couldnt they ;)

...MUST be OK then, mustn't it?????

When I first saw this post I had the same reaction as most people here. But then I thought that as this person posted his query here in "Show Section" his bitch must be registered show bitch. He is obviously a novice not familiar with the etiquette of such arrangements. That does not mean that he will not do the right thing by the pups. He definitely needs lot of guidance, but I feel it is not fair to say; I can breed dogs but anybody who does not do it for the same reason or the same way as I do should not do it.

I do not know what is the situation in UK but we sell our pups because we show our dogs. Person who thinks they can just have a litter and advertise them in the papers soon find out it is not so simple. I often watch Whippet litters advertised for considerable sum, and week-by-week going down until the price will hardly pay for the advertising, not to mention other costs. it is hard to say what happens to the puppies in the end.

I hope Ian and Paula found some experienced breeder near where they live, who can have a good impartial look at their bitch, and give them advice if she is worthwhile to breed from. If they decide to go ahead and breed pedigreed Whippets they should come to some shows and learn more about the breed, learn their bitch’s faults and look for a dog to complement her. Somehow, I do not think it will happen, which in a way confirms there may have been a reason for concern??? :(

Actually he posted in Whips Showing , whips General AND whippets RACING ! So he wasnt just looking for `show`lines was he

:nuke: Oh my, what a hornets nest this young man erupted. Have to say I agree that by stating within 40 miles can easily be equated to being 'close by'. Perhaps it would have been better if Ian's parents had written the post, as quite rightly they and others that know him are defending his intentions, which IMO are as a result of inexperience, on his part at least.

Whatever aspect of Whippet activities we are all involved in we want the best for our dogs and I think Jax has been taken too hard to task (now don't faint Jax!) for voicing the same view that many of us thought, maybe written in slightly different ways. Jax being Jax has been big enough to say sorry which shows what a great gal she is (Again no fainting Jax).

If Ian had entitled the post differently, eg. 'Can anyone help' and as previously said worded the request differently, I'm sure much of the negative criticiscm would have been avoided. And knowing too that Jax has had much to do with Greyhound and Whippet rescue in various ways, are sure that she was speaking purely from ensuring that the bitch was not being exploited and that the welfare of any resulting puppies was paramount.

I certainly was concerned, and make no apologies for that concern, as one of the lines mentioned was one which my stock is either from or descended from and hence the reason I asked for more information, which like others who asked the same question, was not forthcoming, which is a valuable lesson in itself. If you start what could be a controversial thread then you have to ensure that you carry it through when people ask questions rising from genuine concern for the protection of our breed.

If don't mind if people disagree with what I've written, that's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but protection of our breed will always be paramount in my view!

i agree with what you say janfiers.noone here was having a go for the sake of it.folk who have expressed concerns only have done so cos they have the best interests of the breed at heart.ive reported folk in the past to the authorities (recently an old age pensioner who was being abused by her drug taking grandson)and for a child being mistreated.if that makes me a busybody in some folks eyes well im sure i can live with that! :- " what i couldnt live with is if i did nothing (like the vast majority of people)and that child had died if i hadnt interferred.imho we tend these days not to get involved, not to ask questions and not to want to be seen as minding someone elses business.if more folk did then maybe there wouldnt be as many horror stories about animals being left to starve to death etc like the current cruelty case thats in the news this week.this is not accusing the young lad of anything bad btw,im just stating that folk can and should make enquiries without being accused of being to the far right of ghengis khan! :D
