Id be interested to hear peoples opinions on current stud dogs e.g. why they have chosen a particular dog in the past and in their opinion its merits and what type of litter it produced also does anyone know if xstatic who I believe is new to stud duties has covered any bitches to date.

I think the stud dogs today could be better, as there is three in Scotland that are hardly used. First Shylo Dawn a dog who has thrown camps, then Heartbreaker who has thrown a champion also the rest of the litter were open class and the last SupRCH Hillside Lad who has only lined a couple of bitches why is that. I have a dog which I would like to go to stud but dont see the point in advertising it as he only won two titles and runner up three times as people dont use Scottish stud dogs. Has anyone any views on this as I would love to know.

Apparentley Xstatic has lined breeze(crazy cracker+biondi), I quite fancy xstatic as a stud dog but I would prefer to see what sort of litters he throws before taking the plunge!!!!, my bitch hobgoblin is going to xspell next week(fingers crossed), but I had heard a rumour that xspell had been retired from stud so we were going to try xstatic, but when I rang gill said that xspell was still up for it, so xspell it is.

As far as picking a stud dog goes, we choose dogs that

a) were good(obviously!!!!!)

b) well bred

c) had guts(very important)

d) thrown decent dogs in the past

As far as stud dog location goes, I would travel anywhere in the country for the dog I really wanted to use.(even scotland!!!)

I think that any dog which was half decent and well bred should be advertised at stud (if the owners want) at the end of the day there may be someone out there who may want to use youre dog but doesnt know how to get hold of you!!!.

Tony has just chirped up that the dog should have raced as a veteran to show longevity and lack of injuries.(hopefully this may be passed on to pups)

I too fancy Xstatic but agree its early days. Another I’d fancy in the future is Mad Mick although still at his prime racing I’ve heard he’s tried to line a bitch but was not having any of it. (I hope he gets to like the ladies in the future)

It was one of Sally Meakin’s bitches but I’m not sure which one.

a couple of things  ive had a few bitchs lined and produced puppys every time with one of my older bitchs shes had 3 litters her first being to maddison they through 6 pups all were quite good second mating was to pidgion same amount of pup only 2 were quite good third been to free wheeler none  were that good same amount of pups so really i think that its not just the stud dog its the bitch as well that count when mating.    ive just found out recently that wor john(sonny boy@wor lass) has line two bitchs samsara also a small greyhound bitch will be nice to see what these pups are like. also when gary and my self look at a stud dog we go back at his own litter and look at what came out of that ie.. with xstatic there were a couple of brilliant bitchs being mystical dancer and dancing wind also there was one that hurt her self i think that xstatic was the only dog in the litter. then you can look at the fact that a lot of peole dont beleive in repeat mating is that because they hope by changing the stud dog they might get better pups just take a look at micky mouse and dessie champions in every litter lucy has lines her to mad return this time 2dogs 2 bitches theres a great example it will be good to watch in the future....... we could do with some more blood in stud register in the near future. to john if you dont addvertise you dog in the stud register your silly because if you take a little look at it you may find theres some dogs in there with no states and no where as good as your little dog denise;)

We just think because Ross is so big 32 lbs people will not be intrested they soon forget who he beat when he was flying a lot of good dogs and champs but you never know eh. I thought there was to much Predator / Brooklyn litters but as you have sayed about Mickey Mouse / Dessie litters the were all cracking dogs so repeat matings do some times work out ok.

hi im debbie neils wife, about stud dogs, why does the majority of people use the same dogs? surely if new dogs are introduced to the mating game it will get back to being a hobby aswell as a sport. people are paying through the nose for pups which i might add are not guaranteed champs, when they can use just as good dogs for next to nothing e.g. ty back, a kinda majic ect.most people think that winning is be all and end all but at what cost? ofcoarse winning is very nice but if our dogs run and do their best what more can we ask of them . anyway thats my moan over hope all your dogs are well and getting back into training after their xmas feed!!!!!!  bye for now  debbie

I don't see why there's a problem with repeat matings if the first litter has worked and you don't fancy any other stud dogs then "why mend something that's not broken".

A good brood bitch though will throw good to almost anything, just look at Cheeky Anne every litter she had threw well.

As far as your dog goes John, ok the little bitches might not be queing at the door because of his size but i would certainly consider him, he's a good looking dog and has run against top competition all through-out his career and managed to gain 2 titles, which is more than some well known stud dogs.  I personally didn't like Maddison, i always thought he was a bit over-rated but just look what he's thrown - but that's just my view.

all im saying is , give some other dogs a chance. the same click stick together like glue, in my opinion i would like to see "fresh" blood being used for once .

I couldn't agree more Neil, a lot of people won't go to a dog they fancy because it's not mated anything WHY?

Ok it's nice to see offspring running but how is a dog to prove itself if people won't give it chance, in my opinion a lot of good dogs have slipped through the net for this reason.  As you say the breed does need some new blood but if you look at the Whippet News stud register a couple of years ago compared to what it is now you can see that the amount of dogs has fallen rapidly.

Anyway i'll get back down off my high horse now!!!!

your not on any high horse! everybody has an opinion to air. anyway how are your pups getting on  mine are barmy! jodie 25lb bitch is just starting to have slips. im dreading the time when she breaks down as i havent got a clue what to do with her! any tips on that front would be appreciated when the time comes!

So in an ideal world if you had to choose a stud today which dog would people pick from todays racing dogs.

My three week old pups are doing brill and have just started doddering around nearly all spoken for as well!!

My 9 month old Maralyn x Cool Breeze pup is going to a pet home in the next few weeks to a man in Morecambe.

My 1 year old Stewart x Hobgoblin has just had her 1st season which turned a bit odd, she bled for quite a long time and now she's showing signs of a phantom pregnancy but fingers crossed it's just because it's her 1st as it's quite common for the 1st season to be bad, she will hopefully be right for End Feb/ March.

personally i like the bigger dogs which i have bred my own from wonderwall 47lb. but the general direction people are going is crazy cracker micks mystery but i think that ty back, a kinda majic would produce some good pups. as for the big lads i would think NE1 would be brilliant as a stud

Hiya!!!!, I personally like mad mick, the 1st m/mouse+sharpener litter were phenominal, but the repeat mating litter don't seem to be showing up as well, another dog I like at the moment is shooting star. john, speaking of people not using big dogs we put soapy joe(40lb) to our bitch(32lb) apart from the huge dog tonys mum has(20lb overweight-too much batenburg cake!!!!!) they ranged from 24lb to 31lb and soapy joe is half greyhound!!!, also hobgoblin(36lb) went to stewart(29lb) they range from 25lb to 35lb, providing the bitch is'nt tiny i would consider any dog as long as i liked it!!

call me bias but the maddison+homebird repeat litter were as good as the 1st, but c/cracker +homebird was'nt exactly earth shattering apart from go-loco

ps...... me and vicky are famous!!!!, yes famous!!! we appeared on tonights clarissa and the countryman:cheesy:.

do you think a royalty cheque will be in tomorrows post!!!!

i agree michelle go loco has turned out to be a good scratch dog  ive just read that u and vicky are famous sorry i missed the debut performance!!!!!!
