Hi, I'm new here.

I am looking for a stud Lurcher for my red merle bitch, she's whippet x greyhound/bedlington.

I live in SE Cornwall, and have been searching for ages for a mate for my dog, and now she's in season and still no male in her life!!!

Would prefer a smaller dog as this will be her first litter (and mine) . She's 20".

hope someone can help??

red merle and NO collie in her???
Well I expect there is, perhaps back a generation?

Is it true that I shouldn't breed her to another merle, as the puppies could be white, blind and deaf?? I read it on another website.

Collies bring the merle in a dog, there must be some collie in it

Yes mate, i was guna put that in my riginal post dont put a merle over a nother merle i knwo this because my dad told me. We have two merles and usually keep the merles out of our litters. It usually causes blindness and deafness. So the stud cant be a merle  . Good luck finding a stud though

"Puppies which carry two merle genes are likely to have a completely white coat, be blind or have abnormally small or even no eyes and be partially or completely deaf. So merles must always be mated to a solid colour (whether dilute or not)."

There were a couple like this handed in to Many Tears rescue earlier this year :(

collie colours explained

my nephew recently purchased a whippet x collie, recently found out off a friend the shite hawk that sold it to him had double crossed merles, nephews pup is deaf.

Thanks all, we have found one now, through this forum. :D

Will let you know when the puppies arrive.

lurcher/cross bred pups can be hard to sell unless there from known working lines, wouldnt it be easyer to buy a pup in.rather then breed and have the work of shifting the pups on

An update on this topic,My whippet mated this bitch producing 5 pups all looking strong and healthy and producing a selection of colours,My dogs colouring of black and blue has been dominant on most of the litters he has thrown,This is the first litter where blacks/blues have not been the majority in the litter.
