After an awesome career we have taken the decision today to retire Cara.

After her Veteran Derby win in Devon she had a small amount of pinkness to her left gracilis and today it was confirmed that she has a slight tear at the bottom, although Tom feels we could bring her back given time and treatment she is too good of a dog with a massive determination to win that we feel it would only be a matter of time before she fully tore the muscle or did the opposite side, she is too precious to us to take that risk. We are both devastated and it breaks my heart knowing that she won't be able to do something that she gets so much enjoyment from any more.

Cara has won opens for us that we thought we could only ever dream about; Classics, Golden Jackets, Titles and Supremes and is still the only dog to ever win the English & Scottish Derby in the same year and above all that is such an amazing little character.

I will always be grateful to John for entrusting me with one of his babies, thanks once again.

So with a huge lump in my throat Happy Retirement my little Custard xx

so sorry to be reading this vicky :( have loved watching cara compete over the years and have enjoyed racing against her with lexi and zena

Happy Retirement Cara :huggles:

such a shame she has so much yet to give but good on you for making the right decision look forward to seeing her offspring grace the track when the time comes, they will certainly have a lot to live up to :luck: have a long and happy retirement Cara

Ps I've always wondered why you called her custard cos she certainly wasn't thick , yellow or lumpy !!

Mark&vicky sorry to hear of her injury she is pure class and I'm sure she give you some lovely pups in time happy retirement little girl

 So sad to hear of Custards' injury, but, so good to know owners like yourselves, who put her welfare above their own ambitions! Happy retirement Cuss and well done Vicky and Mark!

It's a hell of a long time ago now but I remember being sat at coppull in the freezing cold, lure coursing some peds when vicky got a phone call and announced that the pup she'd been waiting years for was on its way.

She's going to laugh now but I stand by what I say when me and Cara had our first chat, I swear she winked at me when I asked her if she was going to be a champion.

Cara has consistently been a winner, she has nothing to prove, she's been there, done that and got the title to prove it. Sure you might not of had every accolade praised on here but no one can take what she's won away from her. She's down in history, forever and I know both Mark and Vicky would of treasured this exceptional little bitch regardless.

Happy retirement, my friend, Mo Chara.

Its never easy but im sure you've done the right thing happy retirment Cus Cus.

Happy retirement Cara, what a classy bitch

So sorry Vicky & Mark that you have had to make this heartbreaking decision.

She was one in a million, you don't get many bitches of the calibre that Cara was.

She always made it look so easy as if she had another gear if needed.

She will be remembered as a legend who won all the big events, but was never over-run.

She couldn't of gone to 2 better owners. Thanks for making her a SUPERSTAR.

John&Jean.
