Wasn't sure where to put this, but as there's a whippet in it, I thought here would do! :D

I've been keeping an eye on my tadpoles and all of a sudden - they're frogs!

Tiny little things they are! As it was so hot yesterday, they were all trying to sun themselves, so I sat by the pond with my trusty camera and took some pics.

Arthur: "What are you doing?"

Albie: "I'm a deep sea diver searching for shipwrecks!"

Arthur: "He's been out in the sun too long Mum!"

Albie: "Ooh look! Is that treasure or mermaids?"

Arthur: "Where? Where?"

Albie: "It's definitely moving!"

  Really funny - lovely pics of your dogs Hillary, shame for the tadpoles or frogs though.

Maybe he likes frogs legs for tea! Great pics   :huggles:

They didn't catch any, honest! (w00t) Those frogs may be tiny but they're fast and boy can they jump! :sweating: :teehee:

I just love Arthur's ears!!!
So do I! I thought our dog had the biggest ears there were!

I've got an odd problem: I have too many toads. Hundreds of them, mainly in my veg. garden. I love having them, but they burrow into the soil so everytime you dig a patch you nearly kill several ( I've only killed 2 so far, one a huge old girl who'd been with us for years, very sad). I really don't know what to do. No one on my self-sufficiency group had any ideas either. I don't want to give up growing veggies either and I'm not convinced by 'no dig' gardens (although my knee would like to give it a try!)

We had lots of frogs but they disappeared a couple of years ago - I think there was a virus that wiped a lot out, and the toads seemed to expand to fill the gap. But this year there are a lot of small frogs hopping around my strawberry patch so fingers crossed they'll come back.

The first spring after we put in our huge pond, we added a lot of spawn and had hundreds of lovely tadpoles. We went away in May and when we came back there were about 2 left. We spotted the culprit a couple of days later - a kingfisher had wiped the lot out! He still visits and leaves with the odd goldfish but it's worth it just to see that flash of blue and orange!

Have lots of frogs spawning in our pond each year, last year I remember seeing hundreds of tiny frogs leaving the pond, they were so small, only about an inch long. It was a bit sad as there was a blackbird picking them off as they made their dash for cover.

This year I'v seen newts for the first time in the pond too. :)

Built our pond 8 years ago and started off with a dozen comets (goldfish), and 2 Koi carp. Now have about 80 or more goldfish.

Lost count of how many we have now, they just keep multiplying. We gave about 50 away last year as we had too many.

My pond is covered  duck weed at the mo , Ive put some stuff in and its starting to die off , so hopefully I should be able to see MY fish again soon :luck:

Ive quite a few newts too , I just LOVE them  . Fleur is my frog killer (w00t)
