Okay is this a Bedlington/Whippet thing then sitting on garden tables contemplating the world. Does yours sing?

   Tally  Tally & Arthur have got to be my favourite K9 lurchers - just gorgeous

Lol  Sometimes he does wen he is in a good mood or when he hears the icecream fan  Most of the time he just likes to sit up high, lol

That settles it, a bedlington/whippet is definitely on my "must-have-one-day" list.

BTW, are these lurchers bred from show bedlingtons, or are there still working strains around in Britain? (I am not crazy about the show bedlingtons). Are they mainly bred for rabbiting or simply as companions? Are they more feisty than your average whippet? They just look like little miniature deerhounds, don't they?

Tally is from working stock and boy does it show. She can be a little bit sharp when it comes to food or chewie sticks. She also constantly needs to be kept occupied, very very active even as a baby puppy.

Most Bedlington lurchers are bred from working stock, there are lots of working bedlington terriers about with strains such as the rillington & the Gutch common, Mine is from the Gutch common strain, but the whippet people might use in the breeding of a bedlington lurcher cud be a show type whippet but i myself wud prefere a coursing type whippet, mine has Laguna strain in him, but people differ in wot they want in there lurcher.

Thanks for the info, Jan and Miss Madam!

You wouldn't happen to have any pics of modern working bedlingtons for us non-UK K9ers, by the way? Are they still KC registered? Are their coats very different from that of show bedlingtons? I have tried googling for working bedlington websites, but has yet to find any. I've loved the look of the bedlington/whippet ever since I saw the photo in Mary Lowes whippet book for the first time.

Sorry about all the questions, I am just so excited to get in touch with people who actually know more about these dogs. From what you're telling me about Tally's personality, Jan, they might not be the perfect match for me, but they sure look stunning!

Oh dont be put off the Bed/whips, my bed/whip is a good working dog but he is also a very placid, affectionate dog. and if you didnt want to work the dog they also make very good pets and are very good in obedience and agility they also do well in lurcher shows, and are very good at simulated coursing, there really is no end to there good points.

The show type bedlington is very different looking to the working type bedlingtons its hard to explain the difference you just need to look at pics, so i will have a look for some pics of working type bedlingtons and show bedlingtons so you can compare the difference :)
