We have a big park at the back of our garden & for years now we've had Tawny Owls living nearby. We can hear them at nights & occasionally get a glimpse of them on the rooftop late on :))

Last night I heard one at about 12.30 as I was letting the dogs out & all sounded fine.

Tonight at about 9ish there was a right commotion in the trees, it was still fairly light & the owls are not normally around that early. It was so loud that a few of us all came out to see what was going on. We could hear what sounded like a lot of magpies all chattering very loudly...it sounded like machine gun fire (w00t)

There was also a tawny owl but it sounded all wrong, as though it had a sore throat or was very distressed :(

It all went quiet after about 20 minutes but I'm wondering if magpies would attack a tawny owl? Maybe it has young chicks, would a magpie try to take owlets?

I really hope the owl is ok as I love hearing him last thing when I'm stood waiting for the dogs to finish sniffing around the garden.

Has anyone else heard of anything like this?

I think magpies are lovely looking birds but I don't like them

Ive seen magpies going for buzzards.maybe the magpies had a nest nearby and they was seeing the owl off, i dont think they could manage an owl chick

Hope you're right Keith, I'd hate anything to happen to "MY" owls :D
