Hi I'm wondering what everyone uses for keeping their dogs teeth clean? I brush daily Marley and Oliver's but find they still get a bit off plaque, Oliver hates teeth brush time he prefers chewing the brush.
I don't like using bones as I'm worried off choking. And I've also used dentastix but didn't find any difference to their teeth when using them.
Thank you

I don't rate dentastix either. Natural chews like pizzle, dried tripe, scalp, trachea etc. are good, as are antlers. There is also a yak milk chew that is essentially an extremely hard cheese.

Do you use an enzymatic pet toothpaste? Have you tried wrapping a piece of roughly woven material like cheesecloth over your finger and using the paste on that rather than a brush? It's a little easier.

I know you aren't keen on bones but chicken wings are great. You could hold one end if choking worries you.

I’ve just tried out @BentleysDogFood fish jerky as I wanted to try something natural for his teeth!

It gave a really good crunch when he chewed it up and was pure fish (very stinky!) but he loved it!

Hi thanks for the advice. @JoanneF
I used arm and hammer enzymatic toothpaste but im now trying trixie which seems slightly better. Never thought about trying cheese cloth that sounds a good idea for Oliver.
I've actually looked at the antlers on ebay for them both but wasn't sure how good and safe they were.
I take it the chicken bones would be given raw? My dog's haven't had anything like that before they'd probably sit and stare at them!
Thank you.

@Josie i actually looked at those when i read your post. Also looked on ebay but I'm never sure whats worth trying . I'll maybe order some fish jerky and give that a try. Thank you!

Yes, chicken wings are soft when raw. Never give cooked, that's when they become brittle and dangerous. They also have a sinew type thing that seems to have a sort of flossing effect.

Jimmy had his first one last night! Yes, they are crunchy and yes, they are stinky, but he loved it. Luckily for him, the container I bought to store them in was just the right size except for one stick, so he had another. He loved them, but I need to find out about the salt content (talking of which, we had fish and chips and the cheeky little devil nicked a chip I'd dropped but hadn't noticed! :D). He also has a daily Dentastix, he enjoys them, but I know that thoughts on these vary. We also try and brush his teeth every other day with doggie toothpaste, but I can generally only get the front and front-side teeth. He tolerates it, but mainly just likes licking the toothpaste, hence I can't get many more teeth. I might try Logic gel next, which the vet mentioned ages ago as I think someone on here did.

There is another product called Dentisept, which is sort of sticky in consistency and is used by putting some in the dog's mouth with the idea that the licking action spreads it around and it sticks to the teeth with a protective coating. I have just started using it and I quite like it to use but haven't seen any better results.

Thanks for that, let us know how it goes.
