Feb 1/2 term trying to book a week of sun, problem :-

guaranteed sun in Egypt but don't fancy injections and war risk just for a bit of sun (not currently interested in site seeing)

OH says Hurgharda is MILES away from war in Gaza.

Not as hot in Tenerife, don't like the thought of cockies but they're a better option than bombs.

Only ever been to Fuerteventura in Feb, it was damp and VERY cold, came home with laryngitis.

Has anyone been to Tenerife or Egypt at this time of year ? (rip off prices I know)

can you recommend a hotel.

Found Caledonian Park Hotel in Tenerife but the reviews slated it

not been to Tenerife in feb but been in early march and it was very hot ,stayed at a great hotel called laguna park 1 but that was 5 yrs ago ,sorry not much help (w00t)

i have been to all the c islands in feb and you get what you get..we have had blazing sun, rain, wind, storms.....you just never know.....my mum and dad have just left for one of the islands this morning and it has been raining for last few days...but it was still a lot warmer than here at 20

Egypt........i would go to anymore, my aunty was out there a few years ago and it got bombed

my parents have an apartment there so have been all year round, tenerife is normally 21.c - ish this time of year, normally warm, but sometimes cloudy this time of year. I went this time last year and was on the beach most of the time :)

wish i was off now .... but my ma n pa are going in 3 days.

what exactly are you wanting to do on holiday?? beach or nice places to eat etc? san Blas/golf del sur is quiter than the hustle and bustle of americas. make sure u go south island thou!

Never really fancied Egypt to be honest...but my friend has been working out there in a Hotel and loved it.

Although she is now in Mexico.

Been to Tenerife and loved it, although not in Jan or Feb sorry...it was September when we were out there

long time ago now though.. The south has man made beaches and the North ..more lidos, we went to the North,

hated Las Americas area.

Wouldnt mind going somewhere for a bit warmth myself..good luck Julie.. :luck:

Hi, have been to all Canary islands over the years including Tenerife in March many years ago when the weather was fab - like a warm english summer :)) . However at that time of year I agree that you can get anything so go prepared with hot and cool clothes.

I've always fancied Eygpt but a friend of mine went and said 2/3 s of the people she met there had had awful stomach and bum trouble :x including her - the only thing she wanted to really see was Valley of Kings and she couldn't be away from the loo! Sorry to be bit graphic but that would really put me off especially with kids - one of your family is almost guaranteed to be ill at some point so if it's just bit of sun you are after I would look elsewhere. What's weather like in Turkey then? We went there last year and going again in May, it's gorgeous there :)

it's booked !

going to Tenerife Val Paraiso (sp?), never been all inclusive before (!)

OH staying at home to mind Ella, going with my mum + dad and Sophie, she's desperate to go to the Monkey Park, me ? I don't relish the thought of monkeys climbing in my hair stealing things from my pockets (seen it all on you've been framed )

Is the tour of the geysers etc any good ?

just got to lose 2 stone in 4-5 weeks now (w00t) (w00t)

Julie I said we would never go all inclusive...but my OH booked a holiday to Ibiza quite a few years back now

we ended up going back 3 times to the same hotel...it was that good.

If you have a good hotel and good food etc...

..you can still always go out when you fancy too and try other resteraunts or entertainment.

(The quality of all Inclusive has so much improved over the years...)

Have a good holiday...

Well we went to Luxor and OH has been to Shalm (diving) .. he says we will never go back in the near future to Luxor but he'd go to shalm tomorrow as it isn't the same and the risks are far less.

Ian's parents own a house in Tenerife and yes it is safer but you can get rain, even though it is warm.

Both Egypt and Tenerife are fab for different reasons and you will have a ball

thanks, one of my friends 'to do before I die' things is go to see the pyramids etc, but I'd rather see them on TV, don't fancy going underground that deep!

Couldn't really take OH to Sharm el Sheikh as he'd be missing out on the diving 'cause he can't dive any more after suffering a serious spinal bend and spending 5 days in a recompression chamber, luckily it was in Aberdeen, he wouldn't have been so lucky if it was somewhere remote and exotic :sweating:

I suppose even if it rains in Tenerife it'll be more pleasant than UK Feb rain !

good job the baggage allowance is 20 kg to accomodate the jumpers (she who needs a cardi in Greece at night  )

Oh crickey your poor OH, no that would be unfair to take him to sharm after having that... flipping heck, he was lucky.

I will tell you what with regard to the pyramids.. they are a bit of a let down... well we thought so anyway... on tv it looks as if they are in the desert a million miles for everything when in fact there is a smoggy city right around them  oh and the 11 hour train trip to Cairo from Luxor was torture.

Tenerife will be better and who knows the weather may be fab... M&D'IL came back from Playa de las Américas a few weeks ago and it was 21/24 degs and though slightly cloudy they have a bit of a tan and M'IL said she only wore a cardi at night.

I am a fan on the good old poncho when I got over there as it packs small and you can just pop it over your head when you feel nippy.

Have a wonderful time xx

weve been to Tenerife this time of year a few times and its been very nice. Its not baking hot, but hot enough to lie on the beach with the kids in the sea. I hope its the same for Gran Canaria cos we are going there for half term, even though its costing 3 times as much ( GCSE year for son). The best bit is laying on the beach with the sun on your back thinking its February and cold and rainy back home!

Lyn

ooh! thanks, Cornish and Nanscamp.

Getting excited now, it will be nice to see some sun, since last summer here didn't exist.

Hope you have a great 1/2 term in the Canaries too, the sickening thing is for about another £100 you can have a second week, but we have to get back for school

Just got to lose 2 stone in 4 weeks (w00t)

I suppose I shouldnt care really - no work and no cooking but a bit of sunshine would be nice. Like you say, you get what you are given. It doesnt rain in the pub...

hey, nanscamp have a lovely 1/2 term holiday.

I think it's about 20 in Tenerife, but expecting mid week showers, hope they occur while we're in bed asleep !!

Going Mon morning, I hate all the packing lark, just want to get there and enjoy a break from work which is hell at the mo..... left a message for my friends in work....while they're squeezing the bottles of gel for the scans, I'll be squeezing the bottles of sun cream :p (hopefully not squeezing the rain out of my shorts  )

have a lovely holiday good luck with weight loss hope the sun shines on you

Thanks Sue, lost out on the diet, been having major choc-attacks ! shall have to do lots of walking on hol !

have a lovely break-we've been in april/december before and it's been great weather wise-don't forget even if it's cloudy you can still get the rays/tan. :D

got home late last night and just caught up with 17 pages of k9 !

Had a great time, my mum + dad are good fun and my daughter loved everything, especially the Siam Waterpark, since OH was at home I had to get wet and go on all the rides with her.

One was in a double ring where we went down a black tunnel and emerged into a 50 ft wide plug hole with no way to go but down the hole, I had to pretend to be very brave as OH wasn't there , I was cr****ng myself but her little scared face was awful, we landed in a pool at the end to cries of 'That was BOSS, lets do it again!'

so the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th times were not as bad !

Weather was lovely + hot but when the clouds camme we were f f f freezing.

Playa Paraiso was a one street place with a few shops full of the usual tatty souveneirs and I don't think I'd ever go all inclusive again.

Was I glad I took someones advice and vacummed packed an old pillow as theirs were wafer thin, just left it at the hotel when finished.

I've got well toned calves after all the walking and stairs (6th floor with rubbish lifts, thankfully we weren't on the 17th)

I know it's a volcanic island and you've got to try things for yourself, but think I much prefer the pretty Greek Islands with sandy beaches, no wonder they filmed Planet of the Apes there !

Still it suits some as a lot of people spend several months at a time there.
