Ah, the problem is the size of the photos - you need to resize to under 800px in each direction (I think - if that doesn't work the limit may be slightly less). Then when you upload the file, you get the option to post at either 'thumbnail' or 'full image' - this is a (reesized) full image:

If it helps, I found the easiest way to post a too-large image file was to take a screenshot and post that.
