Hi everybody

Thinking of purchasing a stronger hoover - Milo has uncontrollable hair loss ( I think he sheds waaaay more than any other JRT or short haired dog I've ever met)

Anybody have any suggestions?

choc lab, black lab, goldie lab lol ive found over the years any will do but check out the motor power and suction power, i had and still have a henry that does the job its 20 yrs old, i bought a new henry and the man said it not last 20 lucky if it lasts 6..

We have a old model dyson upstairs and a Vax Mac 6 downstairs. Both really good but have to really clean them out and maintain them! Best buy is a broom buddy from Lakeland I use before I hoover :)

I have the same as BarrettBabies, though I haven't heard of a broom buddy, must check that out :)

We've got a Sebo, and they're great. Not cheap, but then if your dog has killed more than one vacuum cleaner a year for the last 4 years, including Vax, Dyson and Electrolux 'pet' models, then a vacuum that is guaranteed for 10 years no matter how hairy your dog is a decent investment.

It also happens to be the most fabulously put together, easily 'owner maintained', urbane vacuum cleaner that works brilliantly and is quiet enough that you can hold a conversation or hear the phone over it.

EDIT- and if you think that a JRT sheds hair, you should try living with 40kg of very long haired german shepherd who sheds a carrier bag full of hair every few days ;)

Do you Furminate Milo regularly to reduce the amount of undercoat he's carrying around with him (and therefore the amount of hair he actually can lose on the furnishings)? If not then I'd recommend a Furminator before a new vacuum cleaner :)

The miele allervac is pretty good, no brushes to get clogged, but pretty expensive bags. Also i use a rubber broom from a garden centre. I have two, one hand held, which gets hairs out of any fabric! Even industrial carpets, i help out my blind friend who has a samoyed, and it gets her monster hairs out of the pile, so the vac can suck it up.

I use a Vax Power Reach 6 which is a good vacuum cleaner. Does all I ask of it, good supply of tools with it, and a longer flexi tube too.

Good value for money at £100

I have no carpets - just tiles and lino in the house now......much easier maintained. I have a Dyson....good job!

I inherited an old dyson from mom when I moved out a few years ago. This does a very good job of cleaning, however it is so good it needs emptying every other time it's used. So I now just empty it after every use.

We also have a dyson hand held (which is a fantastic bit of kit btw) however it is very expensive.
