With all these lovely blue puppies being born and myself being fortunate to have a home bred blue whippet it warms my heart as when I first became involved with Whippets my goal was alway to have a solid blue something I relayed to a certain breeder at a show about 10 years ago. In a disgusted voice she said to me "what on earth do you want a blue for - their the first in the bucket", and then tried to push a puppy of her own onto me. I turned my back on the woman and have never dealt with her again or put potential puppy owners her way. I can't wait for the latest blues born to enter the ring / obedience/ lure and show they are just as beautiful as all the other colours. :p

It's funny how things come full circle though.

When I went looking for my first whippet 18 years ago, I was looking for a black and white. I couldn't afford to fly one up from down south so I searched all over Qld but couldn't get one.

I finally found a puppy from a beautiful black and white bitch, but the pup himself was fawn and white. I nearly didn't take him because to me the colour was "boring" (sorry to all the fawn fanatics). The breeder said to me, "I don't know why you want a black and white - you'll never win with one."

This comment obviously came from the disheartened attempts to win with the lovely black and white mother of my dog.

But I never gave up on my black and white idea (as you well know Cristina) and that breeder herself now has a renewed vigour for breeding colour (also as you well know). And is doing rather well with a black and white she kept for herself.

One day we will be winning major awards with whippets of colour. The trend is starting to turn - I knew it would - just like it did with liver dalmatians. It just takes time and dedication :D

I've never been a colour fanatic because at the end of the day each dog has its own character and if it looks fit, strong etc why should it not stand any chance of winning in shows because of its colour! Is it fashion?

On the statement of blues, our whippet Jack (RIP) was a blue and everywhere we went people always made comments on what a beautiful colour and coat he had. A local dog handler who has done very well in shows with his Viemarama 'Dolly' stated that it was one of the finest he had ever seen. Which makes me think the colour issue is complete tosh.

Getting 2 Blues on the 5th feb now.

Does that mean Im now a colour fanatic???

I've got a very handsome fawn Ollie, but my grandad had a blue who was simply gorgeous. Its next on my list to get a little blue girl - ASAP!

I love all whippets and so does Ollie, he's always really excited to run into a whippet or any sort of sighthound.

This forum is full of piccies of gorgeous dogs of every colour. But the blue pups are my fave at the moment.

Hmmmmmmm ............. this sounds familiar to me!!! LOL!!!

I love blues as well but although I will definitely have another black (I have a cunning plan to breed one this time), my dear departed Lester was such a character that I can't come to terms with having another yet.

Here's a pic of Dessie Lester, for all those that like looking at blues

I love all colours of whippet and have owned most them, though I have to admit to being particularly fond of solid gold fawn and black. I am very thrilled to hear that Tigger, my brindle and white dog, has just sired a litter of 10 , containing 2 blues, several blacks, a red brindle and some "not sure yets" ( they are only a day old !) Mother is black, hence the mixture of colours.

One of the fascinating things about breeding whippets is the incredible variety of colours and shades that you can get, every litter is a surprise.

I think blue is a fantastic colour, though I am also very fond of black (and white)

I too love blues. Here is a pic of my Gracie who will be 3 in February

Blue is a lovely colour, my first ever whippet was blue with lovely striking white feet, neck, tail tip & flash on her neck, when in good race condition she shone and you could see every line of muscle on her. Do love my brindles though, would love another but it isn't looking very likely any time soon.

As a racer you can have your favourite colour but one thing is more important - speed!

I wanted a blue for years and think they're fab but I've also fallen for black and whites since I saw a pik of one a few years back.

Here's my blue and white trio.
