The Dremel

I know there has been a discussion about the dremel before but can anyone let me know what is the best way to use one.

I know someone who got one for Christmas and is a little unsure of where to start.

She's got the dogs used to the noise of it but is worried about how to get going.

Is it used at an angle or straight on, how long do you do each nail for, or is it dependant on lengh???
