Just curious into the Laguna strain of whippet,As they seemed to be in ther peak before my time?

Was the kennel/strain a producer of over 21" tts whippets,Interested in the type of whippet that emerged from this kennel/strain?

The Laguna strain being a coursing strain of old always bred dogs (predominantly) under 20" to conform to the rules of live coursing.

when we first came into whippets around 17 years ago it was very rare to see a luguna over 20" but i'm talking genuine Laguna's bred by Mrs Mckay/Bong Gunning.

Thanks Mark,Interested in the kennels history always heard good comments about the line. :)

Mrs Wainman is Laguna. Why not speak to her directly? Her telephone number is in The Whippet magazine

Mrs Wainman is Dorrit McKays daughter, she has carried on with the Laguna affix, so dogs bred by her will not be quite the same as the ones her mother bred. Dorrit bred some beautiful whippets that coursed and showed. She was a very knowlegable lady, very interesting to talk to and loved her dogs.

what are these whippets like for work?

ferreting lamping ect?

I think mrs wainman may have a good eye for a dog herself. also maybe she still has dogs bred by her mother and could continue with succses with the laguna line..

I would imagine pups coming from the laguna line would prove to be succsesfull coursers in the right hands..

That I don't know, her daughter is very different from Dorrit.

The kennel was started about 1947 by Dorrit McKay

She raced and coursed sucessfully

She was President of WCRA and WC for some time

The kennel name has been continued after her death by her daughter Lilah

They still 'work'

Most under 20" as they are true Coursing Stock.

Saw two 10 plus year olds work up hill a couple of years ago at Wickwar!

we have two girls millie and phoebe 19 and 19.5 inches and kiplin 20 1/4 inches who have a lot of the laguna line in their breeding.
