We've had the usual

"Oh, is it a baby greyhound" or "is it an italian greyhound"

and "don't you feed your dog?"

I wonder what comments we will get when Austin comes home.

It’s always is that a baby greyhound, which annoys me so much.

I’ve also had on several occasions – Ugh! Look at that dog, he’s disgusting, look how thin it is.

To which I answer, he’s a whippet, he’s perfect how he is.

Hmmmm  .

'Is it a baby greyhound'

'I bet they take lots of exercise?!'

Those are the ones I have almost every walk! But my doggies do like the attention they get, and I do try to make a point of speaking to those who stop me to ask questions... after all EVERYBODY should have a whippet and maybe the info I give them will point them in the right direction.....!

Is that a baby greyhound?

omg your dog is so skinny!!

is your dog ill, she's very thin

bet she needs loads of excersie!

and the one that really p****d me off........................why did you get a black one, when they come in other lovely colours

(so many muppets out there)

Isnt there just :- "

:- " When my whippet/grey was a puppy, somebody at a game fair asked if he was a dolmation, wouldn't of minded if he had been black and white, but he was a light brindle (w00t) (w00t)

People who think whippets are skinny are normaly the ones with a over weight dog in tow :- " All whippets and lurchers are wonderful. :huggles: Diane.

i reckon there would be a market for whippet T'Shirts that said

" i may look too skinny to you but you look too fat to me!!! " (w00t)

... or "yes i'm skinny... but your just fat and jealous"

bet none of the cheeky buggers would make comments then

i'd certainly buy one, just to watch their faces when they read it

Reading all your comments and experiences is really quite amazing :)) i had 15/16 yr olds scream across the park" aay!! you feed your F*****G DOG!!! its unbelievable!!!!

But on a good note one thing that always touches me is the elderly :)) if we are sitting outside somewhere or where ever!! the elderly people always come up and stroke Finbarr and make a big fuss of him and they always straight away know hes a WHIPPET NO QUESTIONS ASKED   Well the whippets were the dogs of their time :)) :))

I've never had so many people pay attention to a dog as i have sincei've had Sada...........everyone seems to notice her.

But no-one knows what she is............im asked all the time is that a little

greyhound or an italian...............i would have thought a whippet would

have been more known than an italian

We took Evie to Delamere Forest for the first time yesterday - its the first time Ive taken her somewhere like that and it was full of people.  Im used to having a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel so Im not really used to people commenting on my dog.  Some of the things people said to me were really wierd and completely    I didnt know whether to laugh or get cross.
We had:

Oooh isnt she skinny, is she a rescue - Nope shes a whippet and shes just fine thankyou.

Why hasnt she got a muzzle on - arent whippets dangerous?

Is she a labrador puppy?

Has she got something wrong with her neck shes got a funny collar on? (normal whippet collar)

Favourite one - shes got a face like a rat!  WHAT!!!!!!

Okay then - what have you been asked?

I get...ooh is that a greyhound puppy?

and, i bet he can run fast!

and then there's the people who say ' look at that dog, he's really skinny' when they think you cant hear.

I have also had some people who think he's a beautiful little whippet pup.... I like those people!

funniest I've had:

Is it a deer? (7 year old little boy)

deer_pose.jpgThe

Does it eat much? (honest she was well slim at the time!)

Daddy, why is the dog really skinny? (honest she was not bony at the time!) :p

But I have to say I cannot walk freely in town with her on the lead as I get stopped by people wanting to pat her (the butter melting eyes!). Last week end I counted 8 complete strangers approaching me within a hour interval.....

Yip - we've had a few recently.

The other day a wee girl (maybe 4 years old) asked her mum:

'Is that a reindeer or a dog?'

In St Andrews on Sunday there were a few comments too:

'Oh look - is that a sausage dog?' !!!

"Oh look at the skinny dog!'

'That's a funny looking dog'

On the whole though he seems to make people smile when they see him - lots of appreciating glances.

Yes, we've noticed that. Elderly people often seem to make a beeline to talk to our dogs and say how it's a shame that there aren't more whippets about these days, than they used to see.

It got so that one of ours would start to walk up to elderly people, expecting a fuss to be made of him :D :D

We had a silly comment the other day - one of ours is very strong, (and I mean VERY strong) so I walk him on a headcollar, so he doesn't pull.

We'd called over to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) cos we've never been there and wanted to see what it was like (on our way back from SKC), and as a family group walked towards us, a girl aged about 12 with them, said "knowledgeably" when spotting his headcollar, "that dog wears a muzzle because he bites".

I smiled and said no, it wasn't a muzzle (he doesn't bite) - it's a headcollar. It fell on deaf ears

Sometimes, you may just as well save your breath :)
