Hi all, just being curious again - is the Peperone kennel in Aus the same as it is in Scotland?

I notice they're all Mc Cleods - is it one kennel with an Aus offshoot or would the Peperone kennel in Australia have to have been applied for under the Australian KC? I notice that the Aussie kennel import some UK Peperones, is that a two way arrangement I wonder?

Johnston & Jessie McLeod are the UK kennels & their son is the Australian kennel...as far as I understand it.

Thats true ,Tracy . thier son < Jackie came over to Crufts a few years ago . hes very much a Mcleod . It must be great having Peperones here and in Aus . Two Aussie Peperones have come to the UK shores ,both been made up into UK champions too

What a great idea! a kennel with a long distance offshoot in a country with lots of old whippet lines (I believe). I wonder if the dogs coming and going UK/AUS simply join the Mc Cleods on the plane when they visit one another.

It must be a pretty unique situation, but invaluable to the whippet world in that it opens up another gene pool of dogs whose lines have maybe become lost.

Off at a tangent, if you have an affix, can any member of your family use it? And does it still apply if overseas?

There was a time that you could register here prefix that already existed o/s. We had Borzoi breeder registering Yadasar prefix, which was( for those who do not know) well known Borzoi kennel name in the UK. Which IMO is wrong,

I imagine it was still the case when John Mcleod came to Australia and they were able to register their prefix here also. Now, the pendulum has swang the other way and NOBODy is allowed to get prefix/afix that is valid anywhere in the world, not even the person who owns the kennel name o/s LOL So, if you move to Australia you would have to start with new kennel name, which is totally ridiculous.

Hi all, Yes thought I would just clarify - yes Lida you are correct we did apply for the prefix way back when!!! It was ok to do this at this time, but not sure about now! It is John's mum and dad who are in Scotland and have had the Peperone prefix for years. We imported our first two girls from them Ch Peperone Precious Gem and Ch Peperone Paper Ribbon (who was our foundation bitch). We exported two of the offspring back to stay with Johnstone and Jessie in Scotland, who have since become Champions over there - Aus & Eng Ch Peperone Solid Gold and Aus & Eng Ch Peperone White Heather.

And no Cartman you do not get a cut!!! Ha ha!!

But other people overseas are allowed to have the same prefix as us! When I bought Cash I wanted "at Aslan" added in England before he came here but couldn't do it because someone in England has Aslan as their prefix/affix.

Also the ANKC are not very good at guarding our prefixes' use by other people in our own country! I noticed last year a Great Dane that carried my prefix in the second part of his name ... he was "Something or other 'Awesome Aslan' ".

Lana, you can write to your controlling body about the use of your prefix in any registered name. Not allowed. My neighbour / friend has Border Collies. Her young bitch was doing very well in the showring when she received advice to return her registration papers as another breeder had lodged a complaint that the prefix name was too similar to another breeder's prefix (which it was). The complaint was upheld and the new breeder had to apply for a new prefix and names for each puppy and and the litter was re-registered - but the CC's in the old name are still applicable. Confusing, but ANKC should have done their homework.

Pure and simple. Jessie and Johnston McLeod, who are spouses, breed in the UK under the long established Peperone affix they created more than 30 years ago and . John and his wife -- John son of Jessie and Johnston moved to Australia, imported dogs from Mom and Dad and breeds from those identical dogs under the world recognized Peperone affix. Why on earth should they change affixes and confuse us all as world recognised as affixes freely and with no difficulty move world wide??? The dogs in England and the dogs in Australia are frequently littermates -- or at worst, first cousins -- nd are simply an extension of a world recognized whippet breeding kennel from Scotland with historic, and long and valuable roots in both the UK and Australia.
