In fact, I used to give instructions to our previous two whippets in Spanish and Welsh - ‘sit’ and ‘stay’ - but I think it was more likely that the hand gestures and treats which did it! Bless them - miss them like mad.

It's hot hot hot here today, and I'm not long back from bug hunting on Upton Heath. I really need to get there earlier in the morning: (a) the light will be better, (b) I won't end up in a pool of sweat, and (c) the bugs would stay still for longer!

No great photos, but I do think I've spotted my first Scarce Bluetailed Damselfly (Ischnura pumilio). Need to check with the experts though.

Flipping heck is it hot here in the outskirts of west london. Don't tell anyone but i;m not wearing underwear.
Its going to be 32C tomorrow though I have to translate that to F which is nearly 90 !!

Definitely a heatwave now. been very hot and himid now on London and worse tomorrow and Tuesday. In the 30s.

I do the same at an ungodly early hour. It’s quite cool by the river here but Mabel’s taking it slowly - she’s now nine. I’ve picked an unfortunate time for a complete ensuite overhaul - noise and dust.
