hello,

Here are some shots taken by bystanders on the beach (sometimes it's great how it seems that everybody has nice cameras these days!)

here is another.... i like to think of it as an ad for the Sheraton! Notice my head behind Rocket's back foot!

Wow fantastic shots and skillful whippet, mine do frisbee but not that well (w00t)

FABULOUS! He looks fantastic but how on earth do you get him to do that? Did you train him or did he just do it one day?

I have been trying forever to get my boy to catch a frisbee but he just looks at me as though I am mad when I throw it - he will only play with a rubber chicken that he chases and then whacks himself around the head with it  Are we talking a different level of intelligence here

Thanks for your photos they are great! :D

and to not leave out Astro:

He is in the Photo of the Month on "Whippetly Yours"

hi,

well, generally i think its mostly about early conditioning.... even from 8 weeks.

the idea is to:

A)

associate the frisbee with positive thoughts...

1) feed and water them in upside-down frisbees, at least from time to time, for example , on trips, at sports meets, etc. and as a puppy.

2) talk about the frisbee and show it and bring it with when you head out the door for a walk.. especially, when you know your dog is hungry for a walk!

3) play with the frisbee in some way.. but not tug-o-war and dont let the dog destroy it.

the next part of the plan is to:

B)

make the frisbee become your whippet's "rabbit". you can do this by many means.

and then in the actual training process, i suggest:

1) websites and books about dog-frisbee / dog-disc

2) starting with rollers and moving up

3) keep training frequent and short, unless the dog loves it so much that he/she doesnt want to stop

4) once he/she knows how to catch, try adding competition to catch with other dogs... to encourage jumping.

5) jumping can also be encouraged by throwing into the wind, for example on a beach, to have the disc hover. this is especially good at the start of a session, when the dog is anxious to catch. hopefully he will get impatient and jump for it. if he does, reward him.

there is a lot of info on the net. there is a forum called k9 disc dog or somethnig like that.

good luck. i dont know how much susccess is possible for a dog that is already mature. i assume it varies a lot.

Wow they really jump high don't they (w00t)

Lenny loves playing frizbee but we can't seem to get him to jump for it. We were throwing it for him today but it was a bit too windy, it blew into the next door field which is full of corn and we couldn't find it :( he was most upset so we'll have to buy him a new one.

Wow - amazing shots. Whippets are such athletic dogs, aren't they ... great to see them having such fun with the frisbee :D
