Loo brushes with flushable pads, and mops with disposable cloths. Just no!!!!!

I do wish that clothes would spend longer in their prime and not decline so slowly though. It's not that anyone (well not many people ;)) get to see me in my underwear, but some of it really is in a bit of a state. I'd be mortified if I had an accident and it had to be removed, but it still works,so I can't bring myself to throw it out.
I make sure I wear newer knickers when going out and save the older, more disreputable ones for at home/evenings!

One of my biggest bug bears is throw away shoes.
Not just cheap shoes either, OH likes ecco at over €100 but they cant be re-soled . Walking boots when the uppers are still decent but the sole or heel is worn and because of the all in one molded sole cannot be repaired.

It drives me nuts. Im quite heavy on shoes and I have arthritis in my feet so comfortable shoes are a must I hate having to shop for new ones.
If I find any footwear that's comfi and lasts, I buy about 3-4 pairs before they change them

If you’re in UK then The Ilkley Shoe company re-soled and heeled my Toggi boots that the manufacturers said couldn’t be done. Brilliant job lasted for another couple of years.

We have a shoe/boot repair shop in the nearest town, Mrs Blackadder had her riding boots re-soled for about a quarter of the price of a new pair...still going after 18 months! It's always worth looking around if it's stuff you really like.... not sure that applies to @JudyN underwear though?

I'm not revealing my tatty underwear, but I'm rather proud of my gardening shoes. The sole started to come off one, but MrN has fixed that with his glue gun.

Also note the non-matching socks. I used to have another pair just the same...

My yard pants, that used to be "good work pants" 25 years ago, started breaking through at the knees. I had this pair of jeans that I'd never liked the fit of, that I saved for just such an occasion. I cut off a length of leg and used it for knee patches on my old ratty pants. I expect I'll get at least another 20 years out of them now!

My mum is staying for the week... we finally managed to chivvy her out of the house and into the car to go to a local National Trust property, and then she said, 'I could do with buying a hat.'
'But you brought a hat with you.'
'Yes, but I'm not sure where it is. I think I might have left it on the table in the conservatory.'
'We can go back in and get it.'
'No, we're all ready to go now.'

I despair, I really do.

She looked at all the hats in the NT shop (along with every. single. other. item), but fortunately none were quite to her liking. So she bought a paintbrush instead, to add to her collection of a few hundred she has at home (the artist's variety, she's not got a thing about painting and decorating!).

I despair, I really do.

[Pulling all the cards out of her purse] 'I don't seem to have brought my bus pass.'
'Don't you just keep it in your purse?'
'Yes, but I sometimes move things to another purse.'
'Why don't you just use one purse?'
'Because this is a terrible one.'
'Why don't you just use your other one then?'
'Because this one is a really good one.'

🤪

(On cross-examination, apparently the purse is a terrible one because she struggles to get the cards out of it, but it's really good because it's good-quality leather.) The bus pass was in the transparent compartment on the outside of the purse, so in theory impossible to miss... We're off into town now where no doubt she'll be looking for One Purse to Rule Them All....

Mr F was sent out to get some cold, ready made pasta as a side dish to go with a salad (I know, I could have made it but it never seems right).

He came back with £18 worth of pasta.

We have enough to feed the population of Sicily.

II don't even think it will freeze well (if anyone can correct me on that I'll move this from 'throwaway society' to 'petty things that annoy'.

Yep Old people who keep everything " just in case " or " only for best" were the bane of my life when I worked as a home carer. Some of them had clothes that fell apart as they were touched but no way would they let you throw them away.

One lovely lady called Ann had the sheets, hand embroidered Egyptian cotton that she got for her wedding .(1947) She had never used them because they were for 'best' when she died they went into a skip still unused..

The lesson here is. Dont wait for ' best' enjoy it now while you can.

You should have seen the big bag full of unopened prescription meds my Gran had accumulated. I don't know why she felt the need to order more as soon as she could because it would have lasted her years!! Luckily there are places that take it so it didn't go to waste.
