We had friends round for a barbecue, that's normally one of Timber's favourite things ever. Because food.

However one of my friends has a female schnauzer. We have several friends who come round with dogs and Timber is fine with them, but he clearly doesn't like this dog. He didn't actually do anything, but he stayed indoors and only came out for sausage, and just generally made it clear he wasn't happy.

His nose was properly out of joint!

Wouldn't it be great to know what went on in their minds?

I suspect I know!

It went like ”I hate her, she's horrid, can you please just tell her to get out of my garden and go home!”

What I don't know, though, is why - and I'd like to get into his head to find that out.

Poor Timber... I think it must be like people, some you meet (some you just walk past in the street:rolleyes:)and inside you just don't like them, before they've even interacted with you!😂
At least it was only an afternoon and he wasn't so put out that he refused a sausage!

How funny. And how disappointing for Timber. All excited about his party guests, and then having to miss most of the fun, because of That Dog...but at least he got his sausage.

Has he ever met her before?

He has met her before, I knew from earlier meetings that they just don't like each other but it was just so pronounced yesterday.

@ForestWomble described him well!

Its interesting how dogs, not unlike people can take a seemingly instant dislike to another. I guess with dogs its chemistry or a scent or???? Have a neighbor with a small shih tzu mix that hated & only wanted to attack our last dog, Samantha, who was the gentlest calmest most loving dog imaginable. Same dog loves Lexi, who is certainly not calm, will stand her ground and can be aggressive at times. When they see each other on walks, they can hardly wait to get to each other.

With Jasper it was often posture. He very much saw himself as King of the Hill, but not 100% confident in his status. So his reaction to high-stepping dogs like pointers or standard poodles was 'Who do they think they are prancing around like that? I'm going to have to give them a good telling and put them in their place good and proper.' He also disliked boxers because (I think) of their forward stance and rather pugnacious expression. But then there were a handful of dogs, both male and female, that not only did he like, but he was so besotted he wanted to hump them (he was neutered). I'm guessing that was to do with scent.

Aww, poor boy.
Charlie is a bit like that with cousin Murphy.
He really likes him in public, but just looks disgusted when he's in the house.
Murphy absolutely loves him and is trying so hard to be friends.
He actually came in the house squinting and trying to be tiny, and Charlie was just like "you sicken me" 😂

This was Jasper's reaction to young upstart saluki x Sparky who had the effrontery to suggest they shared blankies. Jasper's blankie!

If looks could kill....

I think with dogs its more related to scent than anything else, but as always, we can only guess whats really going on in their minds.

Definitely scent, Albie has 3 dogs on our estate that he only has to smell have been out and he will go mad although this has lessened over time but if he sees them it’s like he wants to start world war 3…no idea why he hasn’t even been close to them 🤣 thankfully it’s rare that we do see them.
