I've been spending some time with my mother recently, as her partner hasn't been well and has had to spend the last six weeks in hospital (he's due out on Monday.. hooray!!)

She doesn't live too far from the Cotswolds, and as the weather has been so nice of late, we've been spending some time catching up with walks we used to do some 12-15 years ago (trying to forget the worries about Tony). I'd forgotten just how pretty the Cotswolds are.

Here are a few photos. Unfortunately not many of Fred as he just can't manage long walks any more. The picture quality isn't always so sharp...all taken on my little compact...

Walking through fields and meadows, bursting with wild flowers along the edges..

A wheat field..

Safe to let Stanley off for a good run (i.e. no sheep!!):

More wild flowers...

You can just make out the church at Chipping Camden in this one (beautiful little town, stunning):

Another wild flower meadow..

Flowers are in abundance in the villages too:

A few hastily taken shots of Chipping camden....I just love the colour of the stone..

Taking some well earned refreshments there...(I look rather windswept  ):

Another pretty village shot:

and views from another pub garden....

The hiils aren't as steep as in Derbyshire....but we still found a trigg point on top of this one... :)

...and a topograph for good measure...

Heading downhill is rather pleasant and sedate in this rolling landscape...

Stanley eyeing up the next stile to squeeze under...

WE passed some odd looking houses (I wondered if I was in Brighton for a moment or two)

I had to add this one of Stanley....'don't they have sheep to keep the grass down here?'..

A final wild flower shot...even the bindweed is prettier here... :p

...we didn't forget Fred...he enjoyed some shorter canal walks a bit closer to home in the cooler part of the day...

Thank you. It has made a really pleasant change to the usual moorlands, dark gritstone houses, brownish landscape, cascading rivers and odd shaped rocks, I have to say. Very relaxing....nice to get away from it all.

Where as I'd think it a change to come to moorland, grit and brown lol

Lovely photographs ........especially like this one as I lived and worked on the estate there at Sezincote for 4 years ............brought back many memories. Did you walk around the gardens and house ? Well worth a visit sometime. :)

Lovely pictures ... and very familiar territory for me too ... my parents moved to live near Chippenham just after I left home so my kids grew up holidaying in the Cotswolds ... not quite forgiven Mum and Dad yet for moving to join us here ... if I want to stay in the area now I have to pay lol. Glad you had a good time and best wishes to your Mum's partner.

We didn't visit the house or gardens, but really must at some point, as you say :) . We keep going to Batsford Aboretum just opposite.

Lovely pictures Nicola - the landscape looks so friendly compared to the dark moors of Tintwistle! And the houses are nice and clean! :- I love the picture of the wheat field. When we were in Shropshire one of our walks was through a field of wheat. It was lovely walking through it when it was waist high and golden and swaying in the breeze - and the sky was usually blue - fond memories. :D Stan looks as though he enjoyed that walk and nice to see that Fred managed to have a gentle walk too. :huggles:

Our local gritsone does look very dark in comparison doesn't it, especially when it's wet. I've got used to it now (I think), but it did take some getting used to.... :sweating: The honey coloured stone of the Cotswolds is so unique and warm looking. The villages are mostly built in little hollows, so it's a real surprise and pleasure to come across one blending perfectly in with the local landscape. All those beautiful tended gardens too....it's a real feast for the eyes.

There is something very photogenic/attractive about a field of wheat isn't there, especially with poppies aaround the edge?Still, you can't beat a purple heather moorland in the late summer. :)

Youve caught some beautiful pictures Nicola..what a scenic part of the country... Lovely for you to have shared some

quality time with your mam..what a fabulous way to spend it.
