I've just found out that a cheque given to me for the last puppy in the litter has bounced. It's a good job i told them that they couldn't have the dog until the cheque had cleared.

What makes me even more angry is he is such a nice puppy.

I think people who go around giving dodgy cheques should be hung by there u know whats.

If any of you would like more information on the dog (boris) he's posted on the coursing forum under lucky girls pups.

personally i think it should be like the u.s.a. over there issuing checks when you know theyre gonna bounce is against the law. :- " i sold a dog to a guy from birmingham years ago.hed been down a few times and seemed a genuine guy so i trusted him(more fool me,but i never did again)hed paid me most of the ammount the first time he came so when he came to pick the dog up i took a check off him.it bounced.when i rang they put the phone down.i complained to the bank.they said theyd closed his account because of the bouncing checks he kept issuing.i gave up in the end cos it wasnt a large amount of money and i knew the dog had a good home cos hed given me a lot of references id followed up.so i wasnt that bothered but it was annoying.

I hope boris finds a home he deserves very soon,if i lived nearer i would love to come see him (and adopt him!) (w00t)

silly people, you cant mess around with puppys :(

Dunno why people do that mally. :( :( :(

Good friend of mine had litter that folk had been booking before the little un's had seen the light of day, once born, one couple had been up to view them at regular intervals, even were adamant that wanted to pick their own even though she was trying to assess which would be best placed in to each new owner...end of the day when time came for collection they duly turned up and offered her half the asking price in cash or full amount as cheque  ??? VERY mild mannered lady at worst even in difficult situations me friend is, but did not struggle to utter 2 words ending in _____ off.

The puppy i speak of is now in such a good home, as I'm sure your good un' will be...sad to learn you had day-trippers.

It is illegal to issue cheques from a bank account that you know will bounce even in the UK.

In this case as he had not picked up the goods there would be little you could do if however he had taken the puppy and the cheque bounced you could make an official complaint.

You did the right thing though by clearing the cheque first, no one should ever let pups go withoput seeing the colour of the money. My other concern would be could they afford to keep the pup once they have it if they cant afford the asking price?

I think this is a very good lesson for anyone selling puppies nowadays. We are all too trusting, people seem so genuine, when I think of the amount of times I have accepted uncleared cheques in the past, no way I would now. Hope Boris gets somewhere very special.

At the total other end of the scale I had a couple come to see a litter, they wanted a bitch, they had a lovely home with large well fenced garden. Thier problem was they had too much money. One of the bitches was fawn with white feet that looked like neat little socks, a white bib and a white blaze that went very neatly up her face. She was going to someone else (not for her markings)but this woman wanted her because of her markings, the puppy was just what she had imagined her Whippet would look like, a designer dog. After ages trying to change my mind with increased offers the woman ended up just signing the cheque and handing it to me to fill in the amount. (w00t) After about half an hour of this I decided not to let her have ANY of the pups at all. She was livid, I had to call my husband in the end to escort her off the premisis.

 Why do people think that living animals can be bartered for? I would never dream of offering less than the breeder asked, if I couldn't afford it I would think again and also have a long hard think about potential vets fees too. This seems to be happening more and more these days - glad you still have the puppy so you can get a better home for him

Thats terrible Mally :( just proves to me they dont deserve a pup at all from anyone.

We made sure we had the cash for both our puppies - wouldnt dream of even offering anyone a cheque when you hardly know them.

you so did the right thing! your lovely girl could have ended up in rescue or worse. she obviously didnt consider the dog to be a living, feeling being the way she acted. what would she have done when her colour or breed went 'out of fashion'? money is a good thing to have, but a pet needs more than expensive treats or a large garden. it should be a lifetime of mutual devotion, not something you throw away 'because its sooo last season, darling'

It is sad, but I do not take cheques anymore, the bank with ATM is just down the road, thank you.

Has anybody else noticed that more money people have more they try to bargain? When I see a brand new luxury car with people in expensive clothes, I fully expect them asking for price reduction
