Spike has not been vaccinated for three years and his titer test has come back that he still has antibodies of all the core vaccinations. So glad I’ve done this, he would have been totally over vaccinated and with having allergies anyway the effect on him could have been so bad. I wish more vets would do the titer testing, I had to take him to the next town, only 30 minutes away but I’m in a capital city. Of all the vets I rang local only one would have done it but at a cost of £175!

I titre test too ....after my friends dog died suddenly after her vaccination she did alot of research and we both made the decision to titre test ...all of the vets here do it but alot dont like to as most promote yearly vaccinations

And the more research you do the more your eyes pop! Vet was pushing for the leptospirosis vaccine but after researching that he definitely will not be having it, the fact that humans can contact it from the vaccinated dog is unbelievable! Spike doesn’t even walk in puddles and will not walk anywhere muddy in fact he’s hard pressed to go out the back to toilet when it’s raining. Daft dog

I'm sceptical about a lot of the scare stories about vaccinations, including lepto. My vet, who has been practising for over 3 decades, told me that before lepto vaccine was introduced he saw several dogs die of it, and since then the only dogs that have died of it have been unvaccinated - and in all that time, he has never seen a serious health problem that he could ascribe to vaccination.

Having said that, if titre testing was an option for me, I absolutely would. But sadly, no way would Jasper hold still while the vet took blood. Getting the vaccines in is quite traumatic enough for all concerned!

My vet offers both options. Personally Ive never seen a dog die from vaccinations but Ive seen parvo and distemper first hand and I know dogs near me who have died of lepto. Knowing Murphy loves to dig and swim and that our walks mean he comes into contact with possible contamination I take no chances and vaccinate. Which ever you chose I think the important message is to do something and not just leave things to chance.

Exactly, never leave things to chance. Always research and then research some more.

Folly gets titre tested and yes her levels are high, unfortunately as it is not available for Lepto and I would hate for her to get ill when I could have prevented it so she has the Lepto vac.
