Hi. I have 2 whippets - 1 who is 9 months and the other who is 15 months old. they are not related. the baby whip is 17kg of solidness - large paws and head and neck - and not at all fat. he would eat forever though - and is almost ravenous all the time. the older baby is totally opposite. very petite, slim paws, long slim face, neck and very ribby - he was just 12kg but has lost some weight recently - he is very healthy, glossy coat, clear bright eyes, wet nose etc - but not too keen on eating! he will eat some dog food - we feed dry complete and try different makes - but he would really prefer to eat human food - if we let him - and probably dog treats. both are extremely lively and energetic. is the younger one too big for his breed or can whips be large? do we just feed him whatever he wants whilst he's growing? the other (whom we got at around 5/6months old) - what can we do to beef him up? he is almost IG like but as tall as a whippet - are there IG whippet cross breeds? Can someone advise me? Has anyone else experienced this?

9 months old and 17kg? have you typed this correct?i would say he is not a whippet unless he's very overweight!!! do you have any pics?

How tall is he? If he is really 17kg no wonder your other Whippet looks tiny next to him :) but 12 kg is not a small Whippet either! :)

17kg does seem rather heavy for his age.

Just weighed Logan who is 14 months and 21" he weights 14kg

Depends on whether they're peds or non peds. Dobby's 36lb his brother is 27lb. (round about the same kind of figures being quoted in kg's here)

We have 16 non ped racing whippets - heaviest weighs 45lb (20ish kg) and lightest is 27lb (about 12kg) and these two are related!

They say a picture paints a thousands words and I think it's probably your best bet for getting an opinion. :)

My 2 year old whippet is 15kilos when we weighed him at the vets two weeks ago and our 14 weeks whippet X Iggy weights 4.5 but I know he is way heavier than that now

now you know they are just common awful mongrel crossbreds and should be culled!!!! simply "it " dogs (w00t) guess its lucky we have them and love them whatever they are

Willow is barely 19 inches and is 13kg ( 3yrs old), Holly 20 iches ,13.6 kg ( 4yrs) and pup Lily 5 months and 8.4kg! They all look good cond. even if ped or non ped i cant see a 9 month old being 17kg

My little girl is 17.5" and weighs 7.8 kg and my muscly boy is about 20.5 " and weighs 14.7 kg and he is pure muscle and loses weight quickly as hes mad and loves running up and down hills!!

this is interesting. my boy paddy was a rehome so i dont know his breeding . his owners insisted he was sold to them as a non ped whippet but i have always assumed he was a lurcher. he is 23" and fat at the moment but usually about 18kg.

i didnt think whippets could be that big.

i meant to say ...have you considered that your dog may be a whippety lurcher?
