Does anyone know the best way of treating a tfl injury.

My boys just had one of these, we were told by his vet to massage the area twice a day and to stretch it out, lead walking only for 4 weeks, no trapping for 6.

Have you seen a vet

If you can get the dog into a Portamag would help, also Arnica Tablets, followed 2 weeks later by SlowK tablets.Massage will only aggrevate the injury, complete rest,,only take the dog out to empty, keep on the lead for 4 weeks, time is a great healer

I think the massage and stretching were so that it healed smoothly as scar tissue can be tighter. I did see a reputable greyhound vet, but I supose everyone has their own opinion :b and he ran lovely yesterday best he's been in a while

We come across this problem in racing our greyhounds, and the advice was given by our Greyhound vet,Our dogs have returned to racing, and we have not had any further problems

didn`t see a vet,had a friends muscleman look at her,but he`s foreign so had trouble understanding what he was saying, all i know is he said it was the TFL muscle.

With one of mine the injury was sclerosed to speed up scar tissue formation. If they are sclerosed then you don't massage because that will prevent the scar tissue from forming. After 10 days then you start to massage the area and used Trainers Choice but I could have used Bone Radiol I just didn't have any at the time.

With another one of mine who went to a different greyhound vet I had to massage the area with Trainers Choice and stretch from the day that I saw him. (Same greyhound vet that you saw Louise).

With the first dog mentioned I could continue with lead walking as normal so didn't have to cage him. With the other one he was rested for 10 days and then on restricted lead walking exercise - building up the length over time. Sorry I can't remember how long I was told to leave it before letting 'em have a hand slip.

From talking to other racing folks it seems to me that different greyhound vets have different methods that they favour.
