Can anyone give me some advice.

When Kai was 10 months, He started to scream only when eating his food when he was twisting his head around the dish to get around the edges.

Then he will go all stiff, still crying with his head tilted.

This happend twice, so we took him to the greyhound vet John Oconner.

He told us he had a trapped nerve in his shoulder at the base of his neck.

He put a machine on him with what looked like a pencil on the end, it was electric.

This made Kai twitch and cry, then he had an injection and we were sent home with cream to rub in for 7 days Trainers choice it is called.

No running for 10 days i followed all his instructions.

Since then a month past we were back at the vets same thing, same treatment was given.

This morning it looks like its back, he was haveing his breakfast.

Then started screaming, i gave him a good massage which seems to help.

Now hes fine again till next feed time.

Ive tried lowering his dish and putting it high, he is fed with his dish on a stand.

One thing i thought about he did take a tumble 2 days ago while running at high speed.

And also the vet said it was a wonder he could run atall without pain.

Is there something i can do for my poor boy. :(

hi Tina, Poor Kai, give him a :huggles: from the girls. Have you considered a chiropractor? Your Vet may have details of one locally.

Sorry Tina I haven't got any advice, just well wishes for Kai, :huggles: :huggles: hope you manage to find a cure soon

Hi Tina in our area we have a man called ken woodacre he does the chiropractor job on most of the running dogs & horses i have used him a few times & would recomend him he travels around the country to various greyhound tracks doing his bit phone him for advice or maybe visit him at home or on a track he is based in leigh lancs contact no 01942606888 or 07836787194 hope this helps :luck:

Tina have you discussed any other alternatives with your vet eg. specialist referral? Maybe a course of physiotherapy would be beneficial to stretch the nerve? Also might be worth posting in non-ped forum for any reputable vets in the Essex area?

:) Thankyou for your replys.

Going to try and get something sorted today. :(

:huggles: :huggles: For Kai.

I've been having problems with nerves in my Tess's back and have been taking her swimming to a hydrotherapy pool which has had a wonderful effect- she now appears to be sound. It might be worth asking you vet.

:) We are going to see Ken Woodacre today at 2 30 he is at a track near me.

How lucky was that, Thanks Pennymeadow whippets.

Will let you know what the out come is.

My vets said that they would want to xray him.

That means sedation not that keen, But will try all other options first.

Yes OEH, Ive been reading about her, glad she is now on the mend.

We have a pool near us not hydrotherapy just a normal dog pool but that could help him too.

We go to ken he was fab with our shelby a few weeks back the lad was very unstedy on his back legs fell over when he peed and wouldnt walk anywere we realy thought his back end was going and was on painkilers with no effect. ken did his clunk clik found the problem and sorted it we keeped shelby on leads and short walks for a coupel of weeks and now hes fine.

he was so pleased when he did his firts pee without falling over he trotted about like he was a real man again.

good luck today with kai hope ken sorts it for you

Lots of good wishes to Kai - hope he is soon sorted out poor lad. :luck: :luck: :huggles:

(w00t) We are back from our visit with Ken.

Treatment was given in a carpark next to a race track (w00t)

Ken was BRILLIANT, he done some twisting and turning Mmmm he said found it.

My boy did have a nerve trapped but also his front end didnt line up with his back end

Which meant he had a disc out of line :( picked up his back end with a sharp twist you heard it CRACK and back in line it was.

Kai didnt like that part neither did i :(

Hopefully the nerve will not pop back out, but no garantees it wont.

He said he only need be rested for today, but i think i should rest him for at least a week only lead walks i mean. What do you think.?

My treatment from Ken cost me £5

I'd rest him for a couple of days and then build up gradually over the next week. Its so hot that he probably won't want to run around much. Ken sounds great.

ken is one of the best bone men around,if he says he ok to run then he will be,good luck :))

Blimey Tina you dropped on there!! Hope it does the trick for Kai. :luck:

I too take mine up to Ken's on a monthly basis and I quite like the fact if he can't find anything he won't manipulate. Must admit I've never taken an injured dog to him but my guys seem to enjoy the experience.

Does he just check them all over for you then once a month?

Sounds good he said he comes down here once a month, so i think i will get him checked again then :)

He sounds absolutley wonderful- I don't suppose anyone knows if he comes anywhere near Oxford? Sounds like Tess could really do with him.

he goes all over the place even over to irland we go about once a month with our lot aswell hes only 20 mintes away for us
