Tri Colour Whippets

So are there many Tricolour Whippets around, I think they are very attractive and a little bit different!

a - rare recessive black, not in whippets

Is it the one that makes pure black GSD? Does it exist in any other breed?
I've heard so. Don't know if it's in anywhere else.

I do not know the full list, but it was found in Schipperke, Shetland Sheepdogs and Puli. Australian and Belgian Sheepdogs have both - dominant black (K) and recessive (a). Maybe in some other breeds as well.

I was also told that recessive black exists in Samoyeds and Golden Retrievers, causing of course disqualifying colour of hair, if a homozygote appears. In Golden Retrievers it is supposed to be from common ancestors of Golden and Flat Coated Retrievers, which suggests, tha Flat Coated can also have recessive black allele.

It does exist in Whippet, there has been a litter discussed here on k9 in the racing section not so long ago, when 2 supposedly fawn dogs produced some brindles.  They were genetically tested and paternity was correct.  One of the parents was fawn and the other was ee red as well as brindle, which obviously was not apparent.
I will have to search for this thread! :)

I recall that when i was a child growing up in Europe it was well known that black puppy would occasionally crop up in an Irish Setter litters. But I do not think it happens anymore.
