Twiggy had an xray and operation to remove some glass from her pad, the vet put four stitches in. She had the stitches removed on Monday (after 18 days in) and the vet said all looks well as it has healed nicely. My worry is she is still limping just as much as when the glass was in her pad. The skin on her pad is really quite hard compared to her others but this is obviously with having the dressing on for nearly three weeks. I have been putting sudocrem or vasaline on to try and soften it, but i must say the wound looks fine. Since the operation her excersice has been limited to a very short walk when she needs the toilet.

I was speaking to a whippet person today and she said she might have damaged a tendon, but forgot to ask if this is so, is it repairable.

We will be obviously taking her back to the vet if she doesn't improve soon but any advice on tendon damage in the foot would be appreciated.

Thanks Yvette

Poor Twiggy

Lizzie has had a couple of operations where they cut into the pad and it did take a while before she was walking on it properly - I didnt street walk her just let her on grass or soft surface. Hopefully it is healing and nothing else

hope she is on the mend soon

Oh no poor Twiggy.

Maybe like Anita says just avoid walking on pavements etc for the time being, or you could buy one of those boots that you can get until it is healed fully.

A friends whippet had a corn removed from her pad ,it took a couple of weeks her to be sound. She's sound as a bell now.

Don't worry i'm sure she'll be fine in a week or two.

Poor Poor Twiggy :( Hope she makes a quick recovery. Im sorry Yvette i dont have any advice differant from what has already been said. :huggles: to Twiggy.

we used to use bone radiol or sloan linament on the greyhounds when they damaged a ligament. Use

very sparingly. Dogs tend to limp for a while after they have glass removed. Until the all of a sudden realise it doesn;t hurt anymore. Hope this helps

Poor Twiggy... :( how is she now? any improvement.

Poor girl , hope shes better soon

Thanks everybody for all your advice and suggestions  she is now showing slight signs of recovery :luck: On grass she is much better, hopefully in time she will heal. :huggles:

Hi yvettte

So sorry to hear about Twiggys foot, i am sure she will become sound with time as her pad will have to heal from inside to the outside which takes a lot longer.Hopefully she will be sound soon.

Hi Chris,

Nice to see you on here at last!!!

Yvette,I am sorry to hear about Twiggy's injury but I am certain that she will make a full recovery in time (sounds like she is heading in the right direction already),for some reason dogs seem to get a bit paranoid about their feet and can limp for ages after a cut pad,we had a working ESS once who sliced the entire top off one of her pads on some glass, she was out of action for about 2 months even though it healed well in a matter of weeks,it just seemed to be very tender and she "favoured" it for ages. It did come right eventually though when she got tired and was on hard ground she tended to go back to favouring it slightly. I think the boot is a great idea for road walking and something that should be kept in the first aid box "just in case". ;)

Pamela.
