Good luck with your young puppy.
Thanks Maggi. She's quite tiring, but worth every minute!

With regards to the rest of it, well there's a fair bit more I could add but I think I'll bow out, I'm not interested in getting into arguments or politics. I like to go racing with mum and enjoy the dogs, if mine races that'll be grand.. if she falls out of the trap backwards playing the banjo I'd still love her, whatever happens.

Lastly, I do agree with Compo, the importance of meta information should never be underestimated with websites, and perhaps even more so the site's domain name. I recently put up a site for a racing club. It was done in a bit of a hurry (I haven't finished it all yet) and I haven't even made any real effort with the search engine optimisation, but the domain name says exactly what it does 'on the tin'. So if I put the county into Google alongside "whippet racing", it comes up as the very first search result.

Anyway, good luck from me too Compo!

Millsy. I think our pups are similar ages and may see each other on a race track one day

Perhaps the answer is that the official wcra site is in need of some work, if that is easier to find and easier to navigate it will reduce the need for the unofficial one.

The thing is Garry - you shouldn't have to provide a link on here for us to find the results on the WCRA website, they should be readily available and easy to find in a drop down menu along with the Superstars League tables on the site.

I understand your point about mistakes on the unofficial website which when noticed by those that it affects are highly likely to cause irritation, but Rob can make corrections to the site if you email him as I have done in the past. As long as racers don't take Rob's site as 'Gospel' and he clearly states it is unofficial - there's room in this world for both sites.

There shouldn't be a need to post external links, and hopefully, soon there won't be a need to. The restrictions and limitations of the current website are known and acknowledged, and with luck will be rectified soon. Part of the problem is that the website is administered by the Whippet Club, and although the WCRA have administration rights to make and edit posts and add pages, it is a limited access, without the ability to change or add sub-headings or categories on the home page. So currently we are making the best with what we have - and you can be fairly sure that the info that appears there is "straight-from-the-horse's-mouth" to coin a phrase.

I won't get involved in debating the rights or wrongs of external or alternative websites, as personally, I agree that the "official" website leaves a lot to be desired - did it not, there would be no need for any other. But I repeat - it is being worked on

Thanks for that information Ian, I shall look forward to an improved site

Hi,

Where can I go in East Anglia (I'm in Kesgrave, on the outskirts of Ipswich) to watch whippet racing?

I have a 9 month old male pup - I've no idea if he'd ever be up to racing, or if I'd want him to! ... The breeder didn't breed particularly for speed, although he told me my pup's "aunt" was at one time the 4th fastest whippet in the UK - he did tell me her name (may have been something to do with "Kenya" from memory) ... but I guess it's quite an easy thing to claim when speaking to complete novices like me!

I walk him on our local heath where he's a bit of a local "celeb" as although we meet hundreds of dogs, we've not met a faster one!! ... I guess this is common amongst whippet owners!

However, I'd really love to go and watch some racing!

Thanks!

Hi Yjess,

The East Anglian whippet racing club race at Newmarket every other Sunday.

However next weekend they are holding a special meeting at Littleport as part of the East Anglia whippet club show.

If you contact the secretary Carol Brown on 01992633080 she will give you details of EAWRC race meetings.

What's the pedigree name of your whippet ? you mentioned Kenya... so I think I probably know some of her ancestors she could even be related to some of my dogs.

Anyway contact Carol and come along I'm sure your whippet will love it

Hi Kjess

Look forward to hearing from you.

We will be racing & doing trials for Whippets at Littleport on Saturday 12th July at 4pm.

The East Anglian Whippet Club have a 2 day event for showing there hounds all day on 12th and 13th July & we have been invited.

You will be amazed at the number of Whippets present.

Carol Brown

Sec. East Anglian Whippet Racing Club
