My Mother In Law is collecting the plastic milk bottle lids that you get on the milk in supermarkets. Apparently a friend of a friend of hers needs to collect the weight of a wheelchair in these lids to get a wheelchair.

Told you it was unusual - am posting in Whippet Showing as I am hoping you will help and bring some to Midland Whippet for me. I will try and find out when she needs them by and update this with shows I am going to if you can help!!

Thanks

Becky

Hi Becky, do have someone check to see whether this is true or not. Here in Canada collecting the metal snap caps off of cola cans became a national obsession after it was reported that the weight of these tabs would buy wheelchairs for the disabled. People happily collected zillions of them... but unfortuanately it turned out that it was an urban myth, and not a reality and the tabs, carefully collected by thousands and thousands of people were as worthless as worthless can be. Do have your mother in law source the info as to whether this is real, or myth, before too many people get caught up collecting something that is actually not in demand, and worthless.

Hopefully in this case it will be on the up and up, but do check first.

It is through one of his mum's clubs that she goes to, she has already taken some over to them so it seems to be above board.

I seem to remember something about ring pulls over here as well many years ago!!

I would be very surprised if this was real. Bits of plastics are worthless. IMHO it just one those silly jokes; just like all those emails promising to save sick child if you forward the email to as many people as you can; and people do, just in case.... and all what they achieve is overload servers.

If somebody would want to donate a wheel chair they would just do it; why on the earth would they want to receive a truckload of rubbish they would most likely have to pay to have disposed of?

There is a company that re-cycles plastic milk bottle tops, only one. The bottles are easier to dispose of, councils will not take them. So it is probably okay.

I have had a far better response on the other forums that I have placed this on. They are willing to help so just forget it on here.

I will not be updating this thread.

I don't believe anyone's having a go - they just want to make sure it's legitimate as it would be awful if your friend collected all of these just to be turned down. I've been doing some research myself (having collected gazillions of pop-tabs when I lived in Canada that just went to waste) and here are some of the links I've come up with regarding this:

So it really seems to be a bit up in the air...
