This is not a 'rude' post.....lol

Is this condition solely a whippet/greyhound problem....?

Our bitch as suffered with this all her life-she is now 7 years old

We have made numerous visits to the vets and tended to her daily/weekly but nothing makes it go away for long.

Antibiotics-improved the problem but again only for a short while...she obviously can't be on antibiotics forever.....

She is very sore under the flaps of skin around her 'parts'- and slightly inside her body.

Anyone else have this problem with their bitches please?

Sorry no advice but hope you get it sorted it sounds painful for her :luck: :luck:

My only thought is, is it some sort of fungal infection? Very difficult to cure I would imagine. Has the vet done any tests on the area?

thank you-

yes-vet suggested bathing 3 times daily-thorough drying then apply hydrocortisone cream-this helped short term but it came back-

she's had antibiotics too several times but as soon as she stops them its back too.

hydrocortisone also thins the skin after a prolonged period-she has permanent scarring with it/problem.

This sounds horrid for her :huggles:

Is there any way you can get more fluids into her, as this will weaken the urine. Does she drink much normally?

My Holly suffered from urnine scalding last year. She squats so low down when she wee's that it was bouncing back up onto her skin and burning her :(

She had antibiotics to clear it up initially. We then just use to clean her down with a fragrance free baby wipe each time she'd been for a wee. She has not had the problem for sometime now thankfully :)

I would get in touch with dorwest herbs as they may be able to suggest something to help. It sounds like her urine is a bit acid and maybe the mixed veg and easy green they make might help to alkalize her a bit.

Too acidy urine can be a sign of some other problem, but i would assume your vet has checked that out? If you google "acid urine" you will get heaps of info.

This is a link to which food makes urine more acidic or alkaline in people

While your girl is actually sore have you thought of putting some vaseline on the raw spots? You would have to keep her from liking that, but it would prevent the urine to burn her more.
