I have a meeting with our local council in the very near future and was just wondering if any others who had been successful when requesting items for the promotion of whippet racing --

-example KIrckaldy

seem to have the full weight of their local council and even THE M.E.P. right behind them they got the track all leveled /fenced /watered /cut / even gates put on for them and the council cant seem to do enough for them please let me know how you go about it ---

they even supply them with black bin liners --

dog waste bags by the bucket full --

-it seems if they want it the council really go out on a limb for them --

wouldn't this be great if all councils did the same --

the reason i am asking we hope that with a few more members this year we can move forward at Lancaster ------

things with regards to dog numbers are very encouraging--for 2008

only answer if you are contributing something that is sensible and that may help

Maybe it will then help other clubs with their plans --thankyou in anticipation

Hi

I dont know if this might be helpful but I found this website which might be helpful if you're looking for funding to make improvements. Coalfields regeneration trust

If you can establish an application to make improvement to attract more of the community join our sport the council might be more forthcoming with other help.

Anyway see what you think

Wishing you luck

Marielou, with me being an ex-miner, and living in a mining area ie. Oxcroft, Bolsover, Markham 1, 2, and 4, Ireland, all in Derbyshire.

Do you think that this scheme would help in providing a ground for a whippet track?

With you being a smart arse  could you inquire into it on my behalf?

Yours in Sport, your illiterate mate, Geoffrey

Very much appreciated ----but unfortunately we are not in a mining area so having just had a quick look------ i don't think we would be eligible for help ----as it states mining communities --thanks very much for the input ---

Sorry about that Steve geography was never my strong point (w00t)

This is a link for a search engine that will give you links to organisations that are relevant to your club. You put in the details from the list in the drop down windows, ask it to search and see what it comes up with. I tried to put in what I know re: your location etc Click here

Just change anything you want to and then click search now tab

Hope that helps

aycliffe council provide small room to store equipment.

cut / roll the track as required.

not sure if they sponsoring the derby this year?????????? and the field for camping.

all for £00000 :D

this time of year sometimes difficult as track is next to a football pitch odd clash with fixtures.

give Arthur Cook a ring I think he does the negotiations for Kirkcaldy don't think he's on line

Dawdon get the hut and the grass cut but cost's us £80 a year plus Over £200 public liability insurance which our council insist we have I must have a copy of this when I pay the rent. Think as time goes by most councils are going to insist on insurance think rising sun now have to have it aswell.

Don't know if it is of any use but Terry, who runs Bigges Maine might have some idea of who might be helpful when contacting your local council as she has worked hard with newcastle council to relocate Bigges maine club. I would imagine most councils would be set up in a similar fashion and the person Terry has worked with has certainly been helpful.

I have looked on the sport grants and general lottery grant websites but it looks really hard to secure any grants without giving a pint of blood along with the frightening application form! Will ask Terry if you wantand let you know anything of use :)

Rising Suns public liability insurance is nearer £300 :(

Lancaster W.RC.. had to pay 200 hundred pounds a year---- way back in the seventies ---

as we used electric traps and flood lights for night racing

now we are using pull traps instead --and no night racing---

-only training at the present and the only reason i keep it going is once i let go i know it will never be back it has cost me a small fortune over the last 10 years to do so---

i will do this as long as i can but there has to be a cut off point sometime---sadly--

steve

You have done well Steve, all that putting in to whippet racing in the last ten years, when a certain few have done nowt but take out for the last ten years. :luck:

there are lottery grants available for local sports and recreation I' ll try and find out a bit more when we go to a meeting at Swallownest next weekend if you need any help with club/track me LYnn and Mal are willing

Thank you for all the positive response and keep it coming even if it does not help me it might help others and that is what we should be about ---

Just cut the page out with ref to Steve and Julie to show along with other stuff ---

great full page write up with ref to whippet racing as well as greyhound racing---

todays Racing Post

trying to make a portfolio of interest that may influence the meeting---

come on there must be some of you that have been in this position whilst dealing with local councils lets be knowing what worked for you please

steve

Wigan MBC which is what Gin Pit comes under have always been ok with us, they supply bins, fencing, poo bags etc for our lurcher shows but they do need some pushing to do so, Keith sorts all this. They cut the track regularly in summer as it's part of the football fields.

I've only met with the council once and this was some while ago, basicly they were happy to give us money for our club providing it would be used to bring more people into the area. We used our open as an example. They were happy to donate towards returnable trophies, lure battery etc

Not very optimistic about the future of the L.W.R.C. as the local council say that there is no money in the pot that can be used for anything that will help us ---after a meeting this week i am seriously contemplating calling it a day after keeping the club going out of my own pocket since the loss of Steve /Julie a number of years ago ---

The city council just don't seem to be inclined to offer us anything in the way of help and the only thing that came out of the meeting was their concerns about the sum of 400 pounds (rates)ground rent plus 200-400-pounds it will now cost us for third party insurance if we want to carry on using council land to train or run our dogs on --though they were good enough to let us use the containers to store our traps etc in---big deal eh? it will be a sad day indeed when we have to finish as we have had whippet racing in Lancaster since the 50s and the Lancaster city council have never been supportive of us as far as i can remember in any way shape or form with the exception of when Shaun Ward got us a lottery grant for 300 pounds for a new container to store our traps in----

Trouble is with local land owners is that a bit of green field is worth more to them as a football pitch per weekend, whippet racing can never compete with the revenue that they get from other sports.

This sport has only got itself to blame for allowing people to take out of the pot more than they ever put in. The two major bodies should have had their own grounds years ago.

Well I'm not prepared to sit on my arse and do nothing Steve.

So with your permission I would like to put a race night at Highgate, with all proceed's going to L W R C  and I would expect it to be a good turn out for such a worthy cause :- " because I think you've put your hand in your pocket far to long, and you deserve some help.
