Hi,

We’ve just picked up a puppy from a breeder who uses a homeopathic approach and doesn’t believe in traditional vaccinations. Our puppy has been given nosodes up to the point we picked them up. We have made the decision to have the puppy vaccinated- he is now 10 weeks old so we were going to have his first jab in a couple of days. I just wanted to make sure that there wouldn’t be any extra risk due to having the vaccine combined with the nosodes given to the puppy by the breeder. Should we wait longer until they are out of his system or just carry on with the vaccination? Any advice would be gratefully received.

My understanding is that homeopathic nosodes are so diluted that they contain pretty much none of the supposedly active incredients, and studies have shown that they don't elicit any antibody response at all. So I'd say you're perfectly safe to get the vaccinations at the recommended times. Your vet should have the final say, of course.

I think that needs to be a question for your vet (or the puppy's original vet). It's a fairly unusual situation and I'd be surprised if any of our members have experienced it (happy to be corrected, of course, if I'm wrong).

I would say though that you don't want your puppy to miss out on the important window of opportunity for early socialisation so if you can carry him or her out, tucked into your jacket for warmth and safety, you can start on that straight away. As ong as his or her feet aren't on the floor, your puppy will be safe.

Edited to add - cross posted with @JudyN again!
