At least 1 year old ......It's a long way and can break a pup's spirit quickly .........

Hello All,

at the last meeting we put the racing dogs and coursing dogs in different stakes (and will do so in the next) because essentially they are bred and trained to run over different distances and terrains (apologies if I am teaching anyone to suck eggs here), I am not sure what the outcome would be in a "mixed" stake.

Officially there is no age limit in terms of how young or old a dog can be to enter, however it is not recommended to run your dog under 1 year old, they are still growing and running 400 yards up a hill could do some serious damage to bones and muscle. On the veteran side as the owner you will know how fit your dog is but the old saying "if in doubt don't" comes to mind.

Please also note that the slipper does have final say on whether a dog runs or not, so if you get down to slips and he has concerns he can turn you away (please remember this is done in the best interests of the dog).

Regards

the lure operator is sat in the car (as the lure is run off the the drivers front wheel)

a great idea as batteries would soon run down over that distance.

What type of lure machine do you use for lure coursing.

We use a Ford starter motor mounted on a frame with a take up reel. Our lure courses under ASFA rules have to me a minimum of 550yds and usually over 700 yds up to 1,000 yds. and a good battery (Deep Cycle marine) will usually last all day. Of course we keep a fully charged back uo battery handy. My neighbor makes lure machines. I'll have to take a picture. Seems a lot more handy and mobile than a car and wheel.

You probably have more power with an engine driven lure. Friend of mine built a lure machine using a Briggs and Straten engine and ran the take up reel through a VW clutch. Worked great. Almost too much power.

I am so sad we will miss it again. Archie loves to run but his ligament injury is still preventing him from participating. :(

Awww bless him ......He'll be ok soon enough ........There's alway's next year .........

I'll be there this time, with my unpronouncable whippets

And after Beaker pestering all day today it looks like we'll be there as well.

are we going the pub again at 1/2 time  (think I owe you a drink or 2)

The point is she need's someone strange to put her in slips as she runs to me .......as the lure isn't live, so it's boring .........and there's nowt stranger than you  ......Pub sounds good, plus it's open again

Just sent off my form for Nov 6 so we should be there too, barring interventions from Fate. How does the stake system work i.e. which stake would a 6 year old, male 28 pounder be in? :- "
