One of my grandsons is Autistic, lately he has been having a 'melt down' refusing to go out and not talking to the few people he allows to visit him. I was in the area, (I live 5 hours away), so I called in with Folly. Now they have met before and Folly likes him, and indeed he likes Folly. Normally when Folly meets someone she has made friends with she can be quite obvious, not to much to be a problem with NT people but I must say I was a bit bothered about how he would react to her at this time. But she was wonderful I sat down on a sofa she jumped up and lied down next to me, my Grandson, (at this stage hadn't said a word to me), sat at the other end put a hand on her then started to slowly stroke then he started talking to her. After a few mins he asked me how she had been then we talked for quite a time. All this time Folly was just staying still which is not like her at all. I can only think she instantly picked up what he needed and behaved accordingly. His parents were totally amazed and pleased. I understand he has come out of the melt down since. So as the title says I am very proud of her. OK I know its not much to anyone else but just had to share it.

John, it's a lovely thing, don't underestimate it. Sorry if this sounds a bit soft but just because people here haven't met in person doesn't make us all less fond of each other, and a part of that is enjoying hearing wonderful stories like this. Folly is so intuitive, you are right to be proud of her, and of your grandson too of course.

Indeed. Anyone can pretend to be something they are not on line, but something real will always come through the character and people will react to the real person (well, to the fake too..).

And so you should...your little one is amazing and it just shows how we underestimate them. Surely.. for dogs to survive along on our side through human existence, they have to be VERY clever.
There was just this morning a article I read somewhere that even 'wild'/street dogs (not pets) do understand our body language when pointing on the objects etc. ..or something along that line, I'm still on my first coffee so brain is not fully ticking over quite yet
