Why do some of them have such an issue with it? Cash has just been diagnosed with Rhinitus and I know that one of the effects of this is unexplained weight loss. For the pas few months before diagnosis he was losing weight but eating as normal so when he finally got his x ray and diagnosis the vet made such a big thing about his weight loss. I kept trying to explain to her that it is because he is unwell, he has no issues with eating and I was 100% confident the weight would come back on him as he got treated. She kept arguing that I should be taking him off raw and putting him onto a commercial dog food (particularly trying to push their hills science plan on me - which of course they sell) and really peeing me off tbh. So anyway I get him home, his medication worked a treat. Admittedly I supplemented his eals with the odd scrambled egg or cottage cheese which I tend to do anyway and at his check up a week later he had put on 1kilo......I took great pleasure in reminding said vet that I had argued that would happen and that he done it without so much as a sniff at science plan.........The other annoying thing is that she asked about feeding him after the anaesthetic and I said not to feed him because of all his allergies but that I could nip home and bring in some of his own raw food for when he woke up. The vet said no its fine they just won't feed him....so that night I walk into the vets and can hear Cash singin away and I made a little joke "that will be my dog then....." to which she replied "oh yes he was quiet as a mouse until I fed him....."o_O

I understand most vets only have a short session on pet feeding during their training, and what they get is given by pet food makers, and so not surprisingly only talks about their products. Their are some vets that have done further studies on feeding and if you are lucky to see one they will be fine with raw feeding.

Our vets push Hills too, although our dog is on Gentle as recommended by this very forum.

I was told they only do one day on nutrition when studying. Of course I don't know if that is true but I do understand it is limited. When I was trying to explain about his allergies she was trying to push the gentle stuff on me but I remember reading about hills on the dog food index.......
