cease to amaze me with their lack of knowledge about dogs (w00t)

The other day one of my new puppy owners emailed me and said that shed taken Burnie to the vets for his jab , nothing wrong with that , but what really annoyed me was that Burnie is now 15 weeeks old and is teething , and what do their ears do then , :- " Yep , they stick up , down , sideways floppy all the lot . and what did the vet say to Lesley when she asked about his floppy lopsided ear :- "

`OH ! He will stay like that, its deformed !!  (w00t)

Deformed my ass

She was quite upset to think her handsome Burnie would stay like that , needless to say I put her right and she is most relieved I can tell you

VETS  Bl****dy waste of time . They might be ok for operations and spaying etc , but general knowledge they cant get out of a book  they havnt a clue

OK rant over ;)

 Shame they cant keep quite, they tend to worry people unnesicaraly,

This is such a shame, we are so lucky with our vet, she is superb. I took Sparky for his MOT on Tuesday,. Everything was fine, she checked his microchip, and she just had a cuddle with him, told him he was special, he licked her ear and we were off, no large bill.

I know from talking to other people that she is very highly thought of, partcularly by experienced breeders, our only worry being that one day she might move on to another practice, we would just have to all move with her.

One thing Lesley's experience emphasises is the importance of buying a puppy from a breeder who is able to support the new owner after the puppy has gone to its new home. Jackie was able to allay her fears immediately, not all breeders do this.

Definatly agree Jenny a breeder who is only at the end of the phone to put your mind at rest is priceless.

Our vets are great too  - cannot complain at all.

I quite agree though they shouldnt worry an owner needlessly like that and should at least have asked maybe an older vet to come and give her a second opinion.

If that was the case, practically every Whippet pup must be deformed!!! IDIOT VET  Holly was "deformed" for a couple of days but has now made a miraculous recovery back to perfect ears - as will her brother :))

Jax,what you've said doesn't surprise me in the least. Roz Holland was telling me of the same thing happening to someone who bought a puppy from her.

But worst still, she once sold a puppy to someone,& when they took it to the vet's,they were told that the puppy was deformed & would be riddled with arthritis as it had "nobbly lumps" on it's knees (w00t)

Needless to say, they rang Roz up in sheer panic & it took a lot to convincie them that the "knuckle" was quite a normal thing in a puppy!

Bloody vet's should keep their gobs shut if they don't know what they're on about

 those remarks are priceless. It often amazes me that so many people think that just because they know about veterinary medicine, vets will know about dogs in general.

Of course there are some vets who do know about dogs (like the ones who come on here  ) but obviously it shouldn't be assumed.

Our vet is brilliant, we have been using him for 20 odd years, only trouble is hes getting on a bit now so dont know what we"ll do when he retires, his partners are ok but hes the one who knows about running dogs as he has them.

Thats like a doctor telling you that one of your children is defomed!

We have a very good vet but he does seem to have these sort of 'just qualified' youngsters in to help for a few months sometimes.

We took one of the dogs for a booster and because we hadnt asked for my vet we got this stupid boy who thought there was something wrong with the dogs heart and then he had to get our vet in from the other room to listen, and he of course had to explain about the odd beatings of Whippets hearts.

Anyway after all this fuss he was ready to give the jab, he patted the dog and said

' Just a little prick with a needle, hold still boy' (w00t) (w00t) :D

The nurse and me well we nearly weed ourselves, amazingly I dont think he saw the funny side at all.
